A Strategy To Find Problems: Will This Work For Audience - Problem Discovery?

I've been positively influenced by the IH community's thoughts on an Audience first approach (shoutout to @arvidkahl). Instead of thinking up an idea, I want to understand directly through interviews, what are some big challenges that need solutions.

I want to test an approach that I excel at - reach out on Linkedin.

I picked a completely random target community - Building Material Company VP-Sales and CEOs. There are thousands of smaller building material companies on Linkedin. Think companies that make faucets, aluminum siding, joist beams and sell it to builders, contractors, architects and home improvement stores.

I did a little research on some general challenges in this industry - Digital Marketing being one of them. I want to put up a one page website that generally describes a 'Digital Marketing' solution.

I want to reach out to people on Linkedin, tell them I am building a company to help them with digital marketing, and see if they'd be willing to chat about their business.

I'm hoping I can schedule 20 meetings within 3 months and then properly do some Mom Testing interviews.

Thoughts/Feedback on this approach?

Sounds good to me! I’ve been thinking about trying the same thing but haven’t landed on a target yet. How’d you decide on Building Materials companies?

Thanks! Honestly, I've been asking myself is this crazy but glad to know there are others thinking of doing something similar.

I was just randomly filtering different industries and thought Building Materials was interesting because:

      1. The industry seems to be booming
      2. A lot of SMB companies - can get to their strategic goals pretty quickly
      3. Industry seems to use a lot of old school technology

        Makes sense!
