We always see people sharing success or failure stories in this space, however reaching (or failing to reach) those milestones have many ups and downs attached. We learn a lot along those checkpoints.
A simple introspection to those successes (or failures), reveal many things that we wish we could do differently.
Being a developer, I've always focused more on developing features (as many as possible) for my products. It's undoubtedly fun when I do that. But many times, I used to spend too much time on a feature that wasn't necessary at the time. I think that's a Dilemma that developers often fall into.
So my thing would be
Don't delve too much into feature development until you have found a minimum number of people ready to pay for the problem ~ Delay the feature for the future.
Do you have such a thing to share? What would you have done otherwise?
Very true!
I think I’d change how much we chatted to our customers and how we chatted to them. Looking back, we did a a number of interviews, but they were very unstructured and we didn’t analyse them as deeply as we should’ve. As a result, we completely missed their actual pain points…
We are currently interviewing more people about their time management challenges (hopefully doing it right this time!). Funnily enough, the pain points we are seeing now from our second batch of interviews were there all the way from our initial interviews we did in 2019. We just didn’t see / refused to accept them.
True. I can relate. I think our preconceived notions are bigger obstacles in those initial days. Keeping an open mind to everything could possibly give far better results to understand initial requirements.
