A UX designer who built a working product without writing code
I’ve always been on the design side and never really touched code. A few weeks ago, I got curious about what it would take to actually build and ship something on my own.
Instead of learning to code the traditional way, I used Gemini AI as my guide. I asked it everything step by step, from how to build a homepage to how to handle backend data. I ended up learning more than I expected just by asking better questions.
The result is Spot Startups (https://spotstartups.com), a simple web directory for discovering new SaaS projects. It’s nothing huge, but seeing something I designed actually work online felt incredible.
If you’re a designer wondering whether you can build too, you probably can. The AI-assisted path isn’t perfect, but it gets you from concept to a working product much faster than you might think.
Curious to hear from others. Have you tried building something end to end with AI as your guide? What did you learn from it?
Hey I took a look and the site looks nice, but have a couple concerns for you. I looked at your webform, I didn't submit anything but might want to add some client side validation to your form inputs. It looks like you have some but easy one is maxLength on text inputs, maybe a regex for weird characters. I also didn't see any restriction on what file types and size I can select to upload. Maybe you have some of that on your server side but just want to make sure.
