Ask IH: Developers as the audience for non-tech stuff?
What is your experience with that? What have you tried?
For me, I tried running local meetups about the biz side for self-employed devs and one about career topics last years. Both with not that much success despite being in a area with a large dev community. In combination with that I tried to start coaching devs career and biz related but with no success at all. Tested the water around that with a podcast too, which at least got some listeners but none jumped the boat to the coaching so far. On the other hand, people signed up to my coaching newsletter which are definitely non-devs.
I also launched the mindfulDevMag recently, which also targets devs and other tech folks and is about mindfulness and bridging it to the dev world. A bit more responses but not sure if it is even tech folks...
Now I am not sure if it just that something is off in the way I do it, or maybe that devs as an audience for non-tech stuff are totally off, or it is just a regional thing. Personally, I tend to the wrong topic for that audience option; the only non-tech offers I found so far are devs lift and the simple programmers guy.
What is your experience with devs as an audience? Did you try to sell non-tech stuff? How did it go?
I bought multiple courses related to dev career topics 3-5 years ago. There's definitely a market for it, if you have a career a lot of devs would want to emulate, like Marc-André Cournoyer or Edmond Lau (who have each made small fortunes selling to devs).
Which courses did you buy? And what did you learn that helped you?
I also think that devs are a hard market for non dev stuff. One indicator that shocks me is that for most of people launching in PH, Betalist and HN and compare their conversions from different sources, HN is the lowest most of the time. Also, maybe right now in your area there are a lot of opportunities for devs, so might not be a good time to sell them career advice?

Did not mention it above, but it was no solely career focused but also on topics find out what you want an go your way. Maybe you are right and the opportunities are too good for devs right now. You are the second telling me that in the last days.
However, what I find fascinating is that I met so many devs who were so unlucky at work and complaining all day long. Yet they did not move at all. I don't get that.
Anyways, seems I should look for another audience or chnage topic.
