About Grabcube

Our story

We come from the core team behind Trancy. Through conversations with users, we discovered that many people have real needs for downloading videos, editing content, and translating subtitles. After thorough research, we found that existing tools like Downie or various online websites either offer poor user experience with limited functionality, or are plagued by ads and restricted download speeds - almost none can meet the efficient demands of modern users.

Further investigation revealed that most of these tools are built on the open-source project yt-dlp. This gave us a new idea: could we leverage our strengths in product and design to refine this technology and create a more user-friendly, purer tool that better meets user needs?

Thus, the Grabcube project was officially launched in March 2025, initiated by Trancy's core members @leon and @leeir, and later invited @spudhsu to join. After 3 months of refinement, our first version finally meets everyone.

Current Status

Grabcube is still in its early stages, and we're still focusing on video download functionality, with Windows version downloads opening soon. We promise: Video downloads will be permanently free, with no restrictions and no ads. We want every user to be able to freely access and save content without interruption.

Of course, developing a product requires sustainable investment. To this end, we've developed AI video transcription and subtitle translation features on top of the download functionality, which you can access through Pro subscription. If you have higher requirements for translation quality, we've also opened up custom translation engine integration, allowing each user to flexibly choose according to their preferences.
