Why don't you read more?

Why don't you read more?

I do read but I feel I have read a decent amount of books at this point and it is more about taking action for me.

Been in a similar boat. Do do do

I probably read more than I want to. I had to intentionally cut back to protect my main creative hours... it was too easy to get lost in learning fun stuff all day, and then at the end of the week I hadn't really moved the needle. That being said, I did spend about 2 years doing "full-time reading" early in my career (as soon as I hit break-even profitability with a business, which was my 2nd, and which meant I could relax a bit on work). I found that period really useful for the next 10 years, so... who knows ;)

Makes sense. Cool. Similar experience here. Although I write a lot of code and find reading a physical book is a great way for me to destress.

For me it is/was poor access to the books I want to read digitally, cost, and tools.

I have found that listening to books at 1.5x to 2.0x speed has increased my chances for reading books. First I started with audio books but they can be rather $$$, so I started using the iOS speech to text feature to have the books read to me. This means that I just have Siri read the pdf/ePub/file to me on macOS or iOS. But it can still be hard to source some publications digitally.

Wow! I never knew Siri could do this. You do it on IPhone? I spend an arm and a leg on audiobooks/kindle. I’d love to avoid that

Yep any device running iOS, it’s pretty handy. Apple calls it screen speak. https://www.apple.com/accessibility/iphone/vision/

I read on my train every day, but within my team at https://paddle.com/ we've all read -> 'The five dysfunctions of a team'. It's awesome and really helps break-down the barriers and dysfunctions that can occur within a new fast moving team!

How do you read in the train? Kindle/book/phone?

How do you get buy in from team members focus read distinctions of a team?

I have a kindle paperwhite, it's the best investment I've made. We purchased the book for everyone, introduced a weekly 2 hour block in their calendars for self development and then booked a meeting a month down the line where we said we were going to run through the flow of the book exploring the 5 dyfunctions.
