Accidental Launch

I started Indie Creators last week and was able to get some good guests lined up for the show.

I also built a landing page for Memberlist, a Substack competitor, that bills a flat rate so you can grow expansion revenue.

Memberlist is one of Kevin's SoftwareIdeas.io ideas.

I planned on working on Memberlist in the background, but Kevin tweeted about it, and it got some attention.

I'm looking for ways to validate (or invalidate) the idea quickly. I joined Newsletter Geeks and Newsletter Crew to connect with writers. So far, I only have a few interested in early access.

The goal is to get 30+ interested in early access before launching the beta.

I'm reaching out to every person who signs up for Memberlist with the following email copy. I send these from my personal email address (jonhainstock@hey.com).

Hey {{name}},

I just wanted to say thanks for checking out Memberlist. I'd love to learn about your newsletter and how I can help grow your revenue.

Would you be opposed to a 20-minute call so I can try to build Memberlist to suit your needs?

I noticed ConvertKit is launching paid newsletters soon.

I'm curious to see how this affects Memberlist.

My gut is that there is enough room for Memberlist, and I will need to figure out a way to add more email providers soon.

    Interesting story, thanks for sharing.

Curious how Memberlist will be able to afford such a low cost? Even with the Publisher rate of $199/mo, you would probably be running at a loss for any customers with over $80K annual revenue. Is the plan to add a higher tier after a successful launch?

Either way, looks like a really compelling product, best of luck!

I assume he still has to charge the Stripe fees?
