Accidentally made a consumer app. Should I market it as such?

I recently finished an MVP for a weather app, https://quantqon.com/qleverweather.html , that helps construction companies decide if their crews can work on certain activities given the weather forecast. Basically they set constraints and it displays the "Chance can't work." 100% chance of rain=bad, just like, 100% chance can't work=Bad.

While developing this, it dawned on me that this could probably be interesting to just about anyone who wants to plan an outdoor activity. I initially was imagining this to be used for checking wind speeds to see if a crew can use a certain crane, or if the humidity is low enough to do outdoor painting, but the same logic could be applied if someone wants to know if it will be ideal weather for hiking, fishing etc.

My question to IH is should I market this as a consumer app, even though I plan on this just being a free loss leader for my construction market? Can you think of anything I would gain by having a user base that I don't have a plan to monetize?

Thanks for your feedback.

    Hey @80dstudio.

Great idea, consistently I am also working on my own startup. An end to end project management tool for construction. We have been in talks with a company called ClimaCell specializing in whether intelligence.

If you up for business, please let me know. Open to any possibilities.

Marketing to consumers is very different than selling to the enterprise. Your app has some real utility and cost plannings/savings for the construction market. Calculating whether a specific role can be productive or not in certain conditions is interesting because it adds some calculations to provide value on top of chance of rain.

A consumer will most likely just need chance of rain. Hiking/fishing/other outdoor sports are supposed to be enjoyable and whether they stop being enjoyable at light rain, or any rain, is specific to particular individuals.

I think you should stick to the construction market. If you move to other markets, it should probably be other enterprise markets.

You’ve hinted at an important point. Weather reports report what they do because that is all people care about. It would be strange for a consumer to have a specific humidity preference for hiking :)

      Thanks for the candid thoughts.
