Hey there, I acquired The Most Dangerous Writing App, then added a writing prompt generator. Please let me know your thoughts on the writing prompt generator. Thank you.
As a writer myself, this is something I would definitely have fun with. I'm wondering if you could somehow market this towards students, or even parents of young kids who are practicing creative writing. Not that an adult writer like myself wouldn't enjoy this product just as much, but I think the youth would especially love this.
Yes, there are already a lot of students who use this tool. I think we could play up the tool better towards that demographic, but marketing takes $ and we need to be careful with our opportunity cost at this stage.
Can you share any info about the app acquisition? As this is something I was thinking about doing myself.
It took about a month to go through. Doing a blanketed 301 redirect from the domain to ours was an interesting learning curve and there's a lot of pressure if you pay a hefty price. We did the acquisition primarily for SEO purposes - we acquired around 60 40+ DR backlinks. Then optimized the pages for keywords + new features
Where did you buy the site from? Some marketplace or directly from the owner?
I like the writing prompt! And the whole design is nice, simple and clear.
I'm so going to use this as a regular activity for my older kids to practice writing :) (We home educate).
That's awesome to hear!
Hey @sproles43 I was just checking this out. Looks like an interesting and fun feature for stretching the creative muscle. This should work well for folks looking for that kind of practice. The copy and intro to get started with the prompt is clean and simple.
Sidenote: the site says there's a team of 4 involved... did you acquire the company or just the tech and haven't updated that part yet?
Squibler is the company that we haven't dive into too much yet. We're building that one from scratch, but it's a lot more complex. For the writing app I posted, we acquired a lot of the core technology except for saving features and the writing prompt generator.
Ahh now I realise that you acquired the themostdangerouswritingapp.com domain + tech and moved it under the Scribler domain. That makes more sense.
This is a really interesting approach both on the biz and tech side. Have you made plays like this before to good success or is it a new experiment?
On a much smaller level, yes. To date, this is the biggest acquisition I've done for SEO and branding.
Very cool. Thanks for the context.

Neither. I got a tip from a friend that the owner might want to sell. It seems like that's how all my most valuable acquisition opportunities have come through. I have received many results from email, but I'm only one case study.
