Sorry if this has been posted before, I couldn't find any posts asking this exact question.
What are peoples thoughts about hooking up a checkout process to pre-sell a product before it has been built?
I'm building and landing page for a new SaaS and wondering if I should add a Stripe checkout process to "prove" that people will spend money for the product. It also means it funds development of said product.
Thoughts?
Pre-selling (crowdfunding) is a common technique used to gauge interest, as is putting up a landing page and getting email opt-ins.
That said, I've not seen that many successful site-specific pre-selling initiatives, unless the maker is someone with a lot of credibility and someone who already has a following.
If no one knows who you are, and you don't have a following, and you don't have anyone notable endorsing you, it's not very likely people will pre-pay for your SaaS.
The one exception is if the SaaS is something that doesn't exist, but people REALLY need it. Even then, getting people to give you their credit card info is not that easy.
