Hi indie hackers,
I've been working on an AI book summaries app and launched MVP with core functionalities. It lets users to search for any book and generate summary, key ideas, quotes and action items using ChatGPT. It is available on web and iOS.
What I'm thinking right now is whether to keep adding more features or fully focus on marketing. Until now it got few hundred users and 4 lifetime purchases, all organically.
I'm hesitant to market it at MVP stage thinking people may not find value in the app with basic features thus not buy premium.
On the other hand, don't want to keep putting in the work if no one wants it.
What you all guys do in such cases, need suggestions.
Btw, you can check out the app here: https://getbooknotes.com/
Hi Akmal! Why don't you first try to convert these few hundred users that you already have? I suggest reaching out to them and learning what else you can do to convince them to switch to premium. I think, at this stage, it's worth using up the resources that you already have before investing a lot of money and time in marketing.
I see that your app has only one one-star review. It doesn't look good - try to get more positive reviews.
I also have a few remarks regarding your value proposition. How is your product better than just simply using ChatGPT? I tried to generate a summary of The Lean Startup on the web but it didn't work. It's also not clear to me what benefits I would get by going premium. I suggest you look into these aspects first. ;)
Hi Daria, thanks for the reply.
You shed some lights on aspects that I have neglected. I guess I will have to work on making the idea of the app clear and highlighting the benefits first.
The core idea is to have an app like Blinkist but with AI generated content. But that might not be immediately obvious for users. So back to the drawing board.
