Hello all!
Our family’s story is a bit of a whirlwind - but I thought I'd share it in the hope of maybe inspiring someone or connecting with other indiehacking/nomading families.
We started off in Sussex, England (2022) where my husband Fedja and I decided that our comfortable suburban life needed a shakeup. We had two kids (aged 1 and 3 at the time). We sold our house and almost everything we owned, aiming to travel, explore, and dive into the digital world.
We set off on a European road trip. We had no plans or a route in mind - we simply booked as we drove.
Our adventure had a rocky start with COVID hitting us in France, we isolated in a French Airbnb so it wasn't all bad. Once we were out and about again, every day was a new discovery. We drove through France’s scenic routes, down the coast and onto Italy. We stopped at Venice and Barbaresco, and my personal favourite - Bassano Del Grappa.
Our drive took us through Slovenia and Croatia, and we had a gorgeous family reunion in Bosnia. Our philosophy was simple: drive a little, explore a lot, and soak in every moment.
During our travels, our conversations revolved around SaaS and indie hacking. We'd listen to podcasts (with a few baby shark breaks of course).
After our travel escapades, we came back and settled down for a while in York. The kids started nursery and we got our heads down.
That’s where we brought our first digital brainchild to life – Nichely (https://nichely.ai) - a topic discovery tool. It was our initial step into the online business world and marked our first online dollar (a moment you never really forget!)
Machined (https://machined.ai) soon followed – an AI writer focused on topic clusters and building SEO. Machined is currently our main focus and we are both working on it full time. Its growing and evolving as we learn our audience and their needs/wants. We have a solid user base and we are so excited to see where this goes.
A few months ago, we made the decision to relocate to Dubai. Dubai offered us not just a new environment but a fresh perspective - and the sunshine helps a little too.
I think there's a general perception that once you have kids, the adventure is over. I thought the same and the thought honestly depressed me a little - but you can explore the world, start a new business, and be a family all at once. Sure, it's easier to do it without a whole family in tow - but it is so much sweeter with. Our kids have become our muse.
Don't get me wrong, the path hasn't been sunshine and rainbows. It's hard. Starting a business is hard, building products and tools is hard, moving is hard, working with your partner is hard, balancing work/family life is hard.
It’s been a path filled with challenges, learnings, and unforgettable experiences. It’s a testament that life with kids isn’t a full stop to ambitions; it's just an adventurous new chapter.
