Advice Needed: How to Build a Mastermind Group?

I've been working on products and learning as much as I can about the journey of building in the last 12 months, but much of it has been alone. My friends and family don't have the same drive or interest in it that I do.

I've heard the value of mastermind groups and think it would be incredibly valuable to be able to discuss these things with a group of like-minded builders and innovators, but I have no idea how to go about finding / putting together something like that.

If you have successfully found a group like that, I would love to hear your advice.

We have facilitated mastermind or peer advisory groups for entrepreneurs for more than a decade. Here are three key benefits that attendees have told us they have experienced by taking part in a peer accountability group:

    1. Realistic goal setting and goal adjustment, in particular presenting to a group makes it more real and more of a commitment.
    2. Rehearsal and review of presentations and emails allows for improvement and fine tuning. A private review with the group creates an artificial deadline that encourages early preparation.
    3. Sensemaking of a problem or situation: the advance of multiple perspectives allows them to reframe and get unstuck.

I've been in and out of several mastermind groups in the past. They've been useful, but getting the right people has always been a challenge. For the groups I've been part, they initially seem like great people but over time I discover that many are wannapreneurs who aren't actually building/shipping. If I could find a good group of productive, disciplined shippers, I'd join in a heartbeat.

Also, in my opinion 3-4 is the right number. 2 is too small. 5+ is too big, meetings run way too long.

I've built my own many of the time and just done this....

Wrote down what I want to achieve
    Who has achieved this
What values do I want in a group

Then gone and found those people in communities and put the group together myself :D I mean a post of that format in a group like this would get some hands raised, then you can filter it out.

it's always worked really well that way for me!
