Hello friends! ๐
I recently started creating YouTube video tutorials (posted my first video on 7th Nov) and I got contacted the other day about promoting a digital product in my video intros for 20 seconds.
Usually this would be great news - who doesn't want to get a little money while creating free content, right?
My only concern is that I am still at the beginning of my journey and I wouldn't want people to see my as a greedy/"sellzy" person, if you know what I mean...
My plan for 2020 is to go all-in into YouTube so this could be a viable source of income, but I'm not yet 100% sure that I should take the deal right away...
What do you guys say? Any advice is welcomed!
Thank you! ๐ฅฐ
Two big questions are:
Now, obviously you don't have to disclose them. But my own answer would depend on both of them.
My opinion is you'll get many bigger and better requests as your channel grows. The party is just getting started for you. So I wouldn't commit for too long a period. And also, if you don't like the product I wouldn't do it either. Hold fire. Or even better, email the owner of a tool / product you do really like.
I don't think your subscribers will be bothered at all. They understand. You're a creator, you need to make money. When people I like get a sponsor most of the time I'm happy for them and it also gives me confidence that they're sticking around and in it for the long hall. So I wouldn't worry much about what you're subscribers think.
Congrats on the offer.
Thanks for your answer @harrydry! I appreciate it!
I'll keep your advices in mind! ๐
I'd absolutely do it. Learn from the experience, not just the opportunity. You can always delete videos you don't like. As mentioned in another comment, and ad can be integrated into your content.
Knee Jerk Reaction - it sounds like it's just shoutout, or an ad you read. These pretty much suck, but if the company will let you integrate it, do it. It's fun.
Creators who make great ads, are great creators. This experience could help define what you do and do not want to do with sponsors in the future.
If you don't like the product, don't do it. If you do like it but don't want to do an ad, quadruple the rate you ask for. Make it worthwhile.
I run ads in my newsletter all the time and have through that experience figured out what gets the most clicks, and which types of companies I do not want to work with.
Sponsorship takes on a lot of different layers. The first is to get through pricing, then creative, then executing it, and finally reporting it.
I'd be absolutely happy to help you through any of these steps if you need 1-on-1 help. (I cover Influencer marketing and help creators monetize) email me hi@influenceweekly.co or andrew@kampheyapproved.com
Thank you for your in-depth response. I appreciate it!
Hey @florinpop17 didn't know you were here !
Congrats buddy!
I try to be everywhere! ๐
I see !
take it, and use this $$ to grow your channel wth ads ;)
Would the same problem exist at 10k subs, 100k subs, etc.,? If so, the problem is really how to make it not appear greedy/sellzy. Which is solvable!
hm check other youtubers and how they do this: it's possible to integrate any ad in an elegant way and it's learned by the users anyway. so why the fuzz? you can do it but the actual problems all stay: how to grow in this space, create content night and day and attract sponsors every month, deal with them and not be able to scale (bc only you can produce such videos), high dependency on one entity (yt) => tempting but super weak business model, I'd stay away from it
