Advice on advertising/marketing a new product

Hey guys,

I'm about to put a marketing plan together for when we release our first SaaS product. I was hoping to get some advice from everyone on the best way to market/advertise a new product.

We don't have any social media followers so that path would be a no-go.

Would purchasing ads through Google, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc be a good option? Which one would is generally the best to do for SaaS?

Any suggestions is highly appreciated!

honest take: don't start with paid ads. start with the communities where your users already are.

reddit, indie hackers, facebook groups -- find threads where people complain about the exact problem you solve and be helpful. takes more time but you get real feedback and real users who actually care

that's what i'm doing with Clarik right now. building in public, showing up daily: https://getclarik.vercel.app

Hey Harrison, just a suggestion but if you don't have any social media followers yet, I'd suggest trying to establish a presence on whatever social platform(s) you think are best. For me, I also had zero followers so I just began by providing value & touching on pain points of who I thought my users were and eventually built up a decent sized following which resulted in more traction and a little bit of validity.

It's a longer but necessary play. Plus It's Free so why not leverage? In conclusion, I would do this In Addition To other modes of marketing.

Google SEM also worked well for me. I started by experimenting with small amounts of money and I kept it regional until I felt confident with my keywords etc. I hope this helps and best of luck.

Thank you very much! Which social media platform did you go for? Twitter or multiple? What sort of things did you post about? Were the posts solely about your company and what it is or about the industry, etc?

Of course! And for me, I chose IG & FB since my startup is geared towards real estate investing. Before & Afters and pictures of houses in really bad shape would be an attention grabber. I simply tried to share my experience & knowledge within the industry, even down the the basic things that I took for granted like market conditions, working with banks, creating budgets etc. Just little blips of value.

While doing this, I would plug my startup and after some time, conversions would start happening, organically. Just be consistent and you don't need to post every single day.

There is no single way to market. Marketing is a game of extreme specifics. What did work for someone might not work for you. It depends on your target market and target publics.

Any marketing activity should start from customer research. Understand where they are, how they make decisions, what kind of language they use and go from there.
