Advice on my Idea 'Developer search engine'
So I've been working on this web-app called GitScout that is essentially a search engine for developers. Gitscout was created in response to people not being able to search and filter for people easily through Github. Aimed towards people who were looking for others to meet, such as those moving to new cities/countries or employers.
On GitScout find developers by filtering by location, followers, and repositories (languages hasn't been implemented yet) and hopefully plenty more in the future.

My thoughts are that this could be used mostly by Employees who are looking for passionate/active developers, or just juniors wanting to find a mentor (me as I'm moving to Sydney soon).
Anyways, any feedback would be very much appreciated. for example: where I could take this idea?

Honestly, not a bad idea, I've seen it done at least once in the past by somebody I know (would have linked you, but seems their site is broken at this point).
Maybe it's a bit lost on me, but what's the big draw that will make this better than networking on Twitter or LinkedIn (both of which allow demographic searches)?
I think if the searching was a bit more robust (total repos > X, starts > X etc) it could really help to cut through the noise and find exciting people to interact with. With that though, the people being searched against may not even be interested a in meeting the people hitting them up, so perhaps it's a bit one-sided?
I could see this being valuable (and easier to monetize) as a search tool for technical recruiters. Being able to weed through the noise and getting a list of reputable candidates based on open source contributions could very well be an asset.
Oh really interesting, I would interested to see their version.
I guess right now there is not much benefit for this idea in terms of networking compared to those mentioned.
I agree I definitely need to improve the searching and filtering to reduce the noise, some will be easy some might not be (depending on how I can query their API). And good points 🤔
