Affiliation program: Does it worth it?

I'm thinking of creating an affiliation program for Logology.
I know some people here tried it, I'd love to have your feedback on it!

  • There is plenty of solution out there, which one did you choose (one from IH members?)
  • Does it really make a difference in your growth?
  • Do you think Logology is a good candidate for such a program?

Can't wait to read you guys!

In simple words, yes, an affiliate program can grow your business. But that totally depends on how profitable you're already. If you haven't turned profitable yet then it's better to explore other channels.

    • We have integrated Lead Dyno for our SaaS B2B solution SD Marketing Suite last month and we're seeing a lift in new customer acquisition. We've just integrated it got our first few affiliates by reaching out. We'll soon be advertising this program on our websites and dashboards.
    • At the moment, we can't really tell how effective it is. We'll be running this for a minimum of 5 - 6 months before exploring other affiliate solutions. We mainly chose this affiliate software as it had low(est) upfront costs and mainly DID NOT TAKE A CUT OF OUR TRANSACTION. We just pay them for using their platform.
    • Any affiliate program can drive sales if those affiliates are paid well and to pay them well you'll need to be paid well by your software users. This is why I said you should only explore this if you've turned decently profitable.

Affiliates like recurring commission, but Logology (to my understanding) can pay them a one-off commission, and hence they (your affiliates) should be getting at least 20% of the transactional value to be interested in driving sales for you.

Yes, our plan was to give 20 to 30% of the sales to our affiliates. The idea came from the feedback we got. Some people really like Logology and are pretty motivated to talk about it. But, you're right, they're few of them and our conversion rate is too low to worth the price of a affiliation plateform. We need to work on that first.

I actually tried it too and I like how I'm able to change and try other choices at the end. But you might want to consider this as something constructive and I'm 100% not harsh.

When I visit your mobile site it's fine (can still improve) but when I visit your desktop site it's "design-attack". I'm being attacked by the design right and left. There's already a lot of colors going on and on top of it the text is tightly packed together.

Your CTA and the animations really work well and are silky smoooooth with its own contrast but it's the other elements all combined with the not-so-symmetric look does not cooperate with my eyes.

        • Would really appreciate a process section, where I'm informed what's next, like "Step 1: Answer a few questions" "Step: ..." etc.,
        • Try and space out in between
        • If you skipped the "skip" button for a reason then I totally understand, else why not put that in?
        • In my edit screen, I can only select the color and font and not even text. What if I made a mistake in the name? Do I have to go all the way back? What's the probability I'll get the same design after editing my name? Also, what if I like one symbol and replace just the other symbol?

I just realized "update brand name" is at the bottom please put it in the customization screen

        • Lastly, I can only imagine the hard work gone into this but I would like to see more designs, maybe a "show all" button? and more designs for me to choose from (I'm sure you guys are working on more designs for me)

Would really appreciate a process section, where I'm informed what's next, like "Step 1: Answer a few questions" "Step: ..." etc.,

You mean during the branding survey?
(I don't get what you mean with the "Skip" button :/)

In my edit screen, I can only select the color and font and not even text.

Yes, we don't support text customization on this screen. It's more a technical issue than anything. It's just kind of impossible to make it smooth… The update my name is way too hidden, I agree with you tho!

I'm sure you guys are working on more designs for me

Yes, we are! There is no show all button for now, but we're working on it!

Thank for your honest feedback, appreciate it!

          1. 1

"Step 1: Answer a few questions" "Step: ..."

I meant a "How it works" or "The process" kinda section could be added to the homepage. You already have "answer a few questions" on your homepage. But I'm saying you could go deeper by saying "answer a few questions" "customize colors and font" "get the logo instantly delivered"

            Skip

I meant the questions, can't I skip all the questions and select the characters "playful" "cheerful" "strong" "bold" etc myself? And say it again, If you skipped the "skip" button for a reason then I totally understand, else why not put that in?

            Yeah, understood 😊.

Good luck with the project, as for affiliates, now, it's in beta pricing (less) so you'll not be able to payout affiliates well. But when you switch to alpha pricing you'll have more room for affiliates, then turn consistently profitable. At this point, you can safely consider integrating affiliates. And yeah 20 - 30% is good!

If possible I'll get back to you after a few months and let you know how our affiliate journey goes.

    Hello,

** "There is plenty of solution out there, which one did you choose (one from IH members?)"
-> well, let's say there are 2 kinds of affiliation system :

    1. the affiliate program using a software (affiliateWP....)
    2. the affiliate program using affiliate SAAS (cj,shareasale, impact...) : this option is more costly, but in many saas, you'll then appear in the database where every affiliate can find your affiliate program
All depends on your budget, but to start, I would recommend the first option

**"Does it really make a difference in your growth?"
See an affiliate as a salesman. Do you need sales to grow?

However, even after the integration of an affiliate program in your system, you'll need to find affiliates. And here the catch: it's harder because there is lot of competition.

The best affiliates are, in general, ppl that are using your software. It's easier to promote something you are using and can explain to your audience why you are using this tool.

Usually, before the integration of the affiliate software, we do something: referral via clients. We contact the clients (ppl who already bought), and ask them if they are willing to promote the service and get something free.

**"Do you think Logology is a good candidate for such a program?"
For some services, our affiliate program is working great, for some other services, not at all.
So hard to answer, but check your competitors if they have an affiliate program, ...

My 2cents : don't focus on an affiliate program for now, it's too soon. There are many other ways with a better ROI to grow

don't focus on an affiliate program for now, it's too soon. There are many other ways with a better ROI to grow

You're not the first one to say that. I'll wait!

    Hey Xavier

First of all, well done! You have nailed it! I just signed up and tried it on my iPhone while waiting for my haircut appointment! I am close to alpha launch of my project and looking for a logo and will definitely use your service. It is such a brilliant idea and great execution! I have already got value out of completing the form.

Regarding your question, i think it depends on the partner. If you are partnering with someone that has hustlers as audience, I think you get a good feedback.

BTW, the project name is so good! Without clicking on the link, I have already guessed what I am going to get!

    1. 1

Glad you liked Logology! Let me know when you launch your project!

I'll be honest, I've never had a good experience with affiliate programs. You might get a few affiliates at the beginning but 99% of people simply won't put in the work to post the right links, etc.
You will spend a lot of time trying to get people to become affiliates only to discover that your time is probably better spent improving the product, getting coverage on larger blogs, etc. Most people simply don't have a large enough audience to convert them into customers. So then the questions becomes, "is the cost of the affiliate software + commissions covered by the expected number of affiliates sales?"

    1. 2

is the cost of the affiliate software + commissions covered by the expected number of affiliates sales?

That's the point yes! I guess you're right, building an affiliation network is hard. Building it before your PMF can be an error. Thanks for the heads up!

Do you offer API? I am interested in your affiliate program if you can offer some sample logos.

I've thinking to find a logo generator to put my some sample logos on my names generator, 3sName.com

When someone select a name, he can get some sample logos to play with.

I am already an affiliate of Namecheap

    1. 1

      Hi @sillycube,

We don't provide API for now. All our product is based on a branding survey, I didn't really think on how we can do it headless… I'd be happy to talk to you about it!

    2. 1

      Sorry, Regarding your questions,

      1. I think partner stack is popular

      2. It works really great for some companies like clickfunnel, Namecheap, site ground, bluehost

      3. Looka (formerly logojoy) also provide an aff program. Brandmark partners with another names generator. So I think it's suitable

Naming generators are mainly monetizing with "brand package". Basically a set of domain + logo for $2,000 - 3,000. This rate is charged by a market leader. Others are charging cheaper. So I think it works, at least for my category

Also, I created a collection of SaaS affiliate programs called affTable. So I've read a lot of these programs.

      1. 1

Thank you for your feedback, I gotta check Partner Stack & afftable.

There is affiliate as a primary growth engine which is it own work:

    • Can you convert better than your competitors?
    • Can you pay more than your competitors for an affiliate commision? (Often the majority of the front side income)
    • Do you have a backend funnel to gain higher life time values?
    • Can you prove with stats that marketing this works? Do you have the knowledge, experience and cash?
It's pretty competitive to shoot for the stars in affiliate networks...

Than there is the recommended to a friend for discount/credit/money scope. Do you feel this service and the customer fit that style of marketing? (This probably isn't a main path but let's say a 10% thing)

And several things inbetween I guess

    1. 2

You're basically saying that affiliate works once you find your product/market fit?

      1. 2

Growth is about putting more wood to the fire that's already burning hot, if you don't feel you have fit yet, work on that first.

        1. 1

That's definitely the plan yes, find PMF then grow
