After 11 months of part-time work I'm finally ready to share my app (luna), an editor-based site builder

You can check it out here:
https://onluna.io/

There are a lot of kinks I still need to work out and a lot of features I still need to add, so you can think of this as an MVP of sorts.

Potential use cases:

  • Landing pages.
  • Blogs / articles.
  • Portfolio websites.
  • Resumes.

Why did I build it?

  • I don't think drag and drop is the best way to build websites. It's intuitive for beginners, but you can go a lot faster with the right editor (think vim or vs code).
  • Text editors lend themselves to long form content like blogs and articles, both of which are ubiquitous on most websites.
  • Apps like Medium, Ghost, Confluence, Notion, Coda, and Whimsical have already introduced rich-content editors to people and they love them!
  • Another added bonus: rich-content editors are very pleasing to use mobile, whereas there isn't enough space for a pleasing drag & drop experience.
  • Lastly, and maybe this is anecdotal, but I've found the traditional drag & drop editors like Wordpress, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow etc... are quite laggy and slow.

What's next?

I still have a lot of work I need to do. What's next on my plate:

  • More components (buttons, forms, tables, etc...)
  • Customization features allowing people to adjust fonts, spacing, component styling, etc...
  • Analytics dashboard showing people their visitors, form submissions, etc...

Instead of keeping my head down for another year while I build out the rest of the features, I wanted to get it in front of people early to gauge interest and gather feedback.

So, what do you think?

i like it! The UI is very clean and easy to use. I think if there are some preset templates that users can select and modify, it would be faster to build pages that you mentioned in the use cases (not to mention have AI generated texts LOL)

Preset templates and AI are all on the roadmap! I'll get there soon hopefully not to far in the future

    Hi @talham7391

Really nice idea. I use WordPress, but your solution could be really useful for those who are just starting up.

Is it just you in the team? If you want some team members, we have 35,000 skilled volunteers at https://skilledup.life. For £30/month, you can start to build a team.

That's an excellent suggestion. I'll definitely do that. It'll reduce the bundle size meaning faster load times. Thanks for the thorough review :)
