I’ve been in construction for over 30 years.
And there’s something I keep noticing… over and over again.
Space sitting unused.
Not just occasionally—but everywhere.
A commercial kitchen that’s empty most of the week.
A church hall used only on Sundays.
A warehouse with corners collecting dust.
Even simple things—like a driveway, a dock, or a workshop—unused most of the time.
At the same time…
I meet people constantly who are looking for space.
Someone trying to host a small event
A startup needing a temporary workspace
A food entrepreneur looking for a commercial kitchen
A contractor needing short-term storage
And they’re struggling to find it.
So on one side, we have unused space.
On the other, real demand.
And somehow… they’re not connecting.
It’s one of those things that once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
I started asking myself:
Why isn’t there a simple, go-to place where any kind of available space can be listed and rented—short-term or long-term?
Not just homes like Airbnb.
But everything else.
That question led me to start exploring an idea I’ve been sitting with for a while—AvailableSpace.com.
The vision is simple (at least in theory):
A platform where people can list any type of space,
and others can find it based on what they need, when they need it.
From a boat dock…
to a commercial kitchen…
to a backyard…
to a warehouse corner.
I don’t have this all figured out yet.
I’m still in the phase of asking,
“Is this something real?”
So I’m curious…
Have any of you seen something like this work?
Or tried something similar?
Where do you think something like this breaks down—supply, trust, logistics?
I’d really value your thoughts.
Because from where I stand… this feels like a gap hiding in plain sight.
One thing I didn’t mention above—this idea came from seeing inefficiencies not just once, but hundreds of times over the years.
It finally reached a point where I thought… why does this keep happening?
