After Google's Core Update, my product's MRR dropped from $6000 to $1500 😢

Hello guys! I would just like to share my position since unfortunately I lost almost 6 months of effort after Google Core Update, so... yeah! not the best Christmas.

Almost two years ago I founded Pyre, which was initially a social network for Gamers. After a while, we evolved and grew to be an "All-in-One publishing platform for Gamers". This makes our main growth lever SEO, and that made our growth really good, we were growing at a very high speed (between 15% to 30% MoM).

our results from last 90 days

We had finally hit a milestone in our history in November with $ 6000 MRR. That was until on 12/03/2020, Google rolled out the December Core Update.

Since then it has been a disaster 🙃 in our performance and we have returned almost 6 months of investment and several pages are no longer ranked.

We ain't thinking about giving up, but I wanted to share this moment and hope to be just one more circumstance in our history. This community has been great and helps me a lot, thank you so much for everything guys 👏

Unfortunately this is what happens when you do “link building hacks” like you mentioned in your latest post.

Now you’ll need to clean up your backlink profile to have a chance of recovering.

I understand traffic may slowed down, but how did you lose so much recurring revenue so fast?

Did your monthly advertisers pull out? Or were you on a paid subscription model with a high churn rate which you've not been able to fill the place of?

Many of the Advertisers evaluate performance month by month to find out how much is worth investing in that channel. If you have sudden drops, many prefer to give up on the channel or even decrease how much they are willing to pay.

In addition, many of the contracts require a certain level of performance, some pay for mileage views.

Another important point is that we lost mainly ranks in the US and Europe. These are locations that have a much higher CPM value (in some cases up to 10x more).

Thanks for sharing - not easy to share bad news.

Have you tried disavowing spam links to your site? This sudden drop usually happens if you don't monitor backlink quality but in many cases the traffic comes back once you incorporate certain best practices like removing old pages (zero/low traffic pages) and disavowing spam links.

I looks like your linkbuilding hack backfired , it was predicted in the post you made about it 6 months ago ? links from bad reputation sites can harm yours ...

Have you found any specifics around what happened? E.g what kind of sites are now ranking for the keywords that you previously ranked for? What's the difference between your site and theirs? May be you could use those findings to update your site and get it to rank even better.
