After Product Hunt outrage on X, planning to revive AINave for Indie AI Tools

Hey Indie Hackers! I need your thoughts on this.

Currently, the main problem with PH is that it is now dominated by VC backed startups only and there are a lot of bias towards big startups. So, it's really hard for an indie startup to gain attraction on PH nowadays.

I started AINave with a similar mission this February but the niche was only AI products. I never got any huge success with it. It was going okay for a bit - we were getting some nice SEO traffic. But then Google did its thing with an update, and well, we're still trying to bounce back from that.

Now, after this public incident, I think I should do more work on it and try to build a platform which is more inclined towards AI and Indie Developers. So, here's the initial plan.

Current process looks like this:

  1. User submit a tool and it is then reviewed to filter the spam.
  2. After approval, user get a tool page with it's access and a free back link.
  3. User can skip the submission queue and fast track the tool review by paying a nominal $5.99 one time.

Now, I am going to introduce launches similar to what PH offers but it would be simple and without any subjective judgement involved.

  1. User have to submit a tool for creating a launch and then can wait or pay nominal amount to get approval within 24-48 hours (same as before)

  2. Only after approval, user can schedule a launch and there will be only 5 slots per day initially (will increase after sometime). Once slots are filled, schedule launch for another day.

  3. Only users who have signup up at least 3 days ago (for now) can upvote.

  4. More the upvotes, higher the ranking. No other criteria involved.

This will create a basic entry barrier and limiting the launches per day provide equal chances. The idea is to level the playing field a bit.

So, what do you reckon? Good idea? Bad idea? What could go wrong? How can we make sure it's fair but still gets quality stuff out there?
I'm all ears - hit me with your thoughts!
