Agonized over the copy and design with my co-founder. Would love feedback!

https://giftyduck.com/

First time on IH - I quit my coding job to follow my dream of running my own SaaS. My friend and I have built a free service that helps people exchange gifts better with wish lists, gift ideas (for your own wish list primarily), and gift reminders.

Would love to know whether it's clear what we do and whether it piques any interest that might convert to a sign up :)

Thanks!!

    Hi Jess !
    Great idea !

    • You have so nice duck in the footer (very pale though) - bring this duck to your logo gift box, to match your logo text and make it stand out more !
    • "Get started" header button can have "plain white" hover state (current violet looks dirty a bit).
    • Real gift box photo and more saturated background can affect your audience (I'm agree with previous comments about "baby gift" feeling).

Good job, Jess :) Keep it up !

The design is awesome, love it!
The messages are also very clear.

Maybe your headline should mention that not only it helps you give better gifts, but also have better gifts.

I can only say it's super straight to the point...which i would guess ITS the point :p I hit signup the moment I read your callout "Gift Better"!

Some said that the design looks a bit child/baby related... I personally liked that touch. Getting gifts makes you feel like the times you were a child (and the older you get, the more you miss that feeling). So subconsciously, it creates good connotations in my head. so +1 for the design approach.

Finally, i would suggest to add a testimonial that also highlights the 'gift suggesting' part of the product (which I feel is actually more powerful than just me having a gift list saved somewhere on the web). What got me excited was the idea that YOU would take care of finding nice gifts that i would give (which is always a chore to me), and made me hit the signup. So highlighting that (which now blends with the rest stuff) using a testimonial around that feature, would further guide the fast-scroller on what is nice about this (of course u need to get a testimonial like that :p).

The visuals make me think of baby gifts because of the duck and the pastel theme. I don't know that I would connect it with a broader audience without taking the time to read the details. I would use images that show the app in action to have a better visual impact.

Same thought about header color :)

Love the aesthetic design, looks amazing imo!

    Love the name, too.

I don't know if the app mockup image at the bottom of the header is necessary or helpful. If I were going to put an image there, I might put a calendar, with arrows various days to gifts or something.

I might change the copy on the header button. I agree with others that "Gift Better" is clever, but it's not necessarily the case that you want to be clever on your primary call-to-action.

The fact that it's free might be worth mentioning up top?

My guess is that your landing page is fine and doesn't need to be crazy optimized. Rather, the main challenge from here will be standing out among the competition with your product, your distribution strategy, your pricing, and/or the niche you target.

I don't give a lot of gifts, otherwise I'd probably sign up. Then again, I actually do worry about this about 4 times per year: Mom's birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas, and stepdad's birthday. I think if I saw this app at the right time, I'd sign up. But since I'm a ways away from any of these holidays, signing up doesn't feel urgent. 🤔

What if signing up was easier?

Here's an idea: Instead of asking me to fill out a form, ask me to input my mother's birthday. That's it. Then email me a month beforehand to remind me to get her a gift.

I like both design and copy. The website was a bit slow but I am not sure that it depended on you.

Looks good and I understand what the product is, I'd love to see a sample of how the list of gift ideas look like !

Looks great - I like that you have three gift boxes immediately on the landing page, in your logo, hero, and cta button. "Gift better" is an excellent call to action. I like the purple button against the green pastel and white - it's nice on the eyes.

My only critique visually is that I found myself looking for the Gifty Duck mascot. The understated baby duck icons are great, but the name conjures an iconic character in my mind. Seeing one on your landing page might strengthen the brand's identity. Your design already has a nice yellow feather tone established by the gift's confetti.

My other critique is more about the onboarding experience. When I hit "gift better" I was ready to look at some screenshots or see a more detailed description of how the app works. It felt a bit early for me to sign up. While it makes sense to include a sign up opportunity on this page, I would have liked the option to learn more first.

      I agree with @Ebell.

"Gift better" is a brilliant call to action.

However, I was also looking for screenshots or a product tour. Something that gives me a little more information about what I can expect when I sign up and log into your service.

Do you have a public wishlist that you could show as an example for how the wishlists look?

      All the best,
      Nate
