A few months ago, I built a little internal tool to handle lead scraping and personalization for my SaaS.
At first, I went all in on automation, figured if AI can write and send it all, I’d finally get my time back.
It kind of worked… but reply rates tanked. Everything started to sound the same.
After a few thousand sends, I realized the best results came when AI did about 80% of the work and I still tweaked the last 20% myself.
What actually worked:
– Automate the boring parts (finding, cleaning, verifying leads)
– Let AI handle tone/context, not compliments
– Manually review the first few lines to make sure they sound human
– Always tweak the offer yourself — that part still needs a brain
Doing that kept things fast but way more human.
Curious if anyone else here’s found that balance between automation and human touch?
