AI made me mass-productive, and now I can't relax without guilt

Iʼm a litigation lawyer and a partner at a law firm in Ukraine. For years, my days were packed - legal research, drafting documents, marketing strategy, client memos. A full dayʼs work for a full day.

Then AI happened.

Tasks that used to take me an entire day now take 30 minutes. And honestly, the output is often better - because I use AI as a thinking partner, not a replacement. I know where itʼs weak, I know where to push back on it, and that combination just... works.

But hereʼs the thing nobody warned me about.

Now, every time I sit down to watch a show or do something «relaxing» thereʼs this voice in the back of my head: You could be doing so much right now. Not the old «you should work harder» guilt. Itʼs different. Itʼs the realization that the same hour of free time now has 10x the opportunity cost it used to.

Before AI, watching two episodes of something felt earned. I was exhausted, my brain was done. Now my brain is... not done. I still have capacity. And I know exactly how much I could get done in that same window.

Itʼs a weird new type of productivity anxiety. Not exhaustion. The opposite, almost. A surplus of potential that makes rest feel wasteful.

Iʼm genuinely curious - is anyone else experiencing this? And if so, have you figured out how to actually let yourself rest without the mental math of «what I couldʼve shipped instead»?
