Prepple.ai, an AI-powered platform to help students prepare for the ultra-competitive IIT JEE entrance exam in India. It’s a niche domain, but with over 2 million test takers annually, the need for innovation is real. Here’s how I went from a simple idea to a working product, and what I’m learning along the way.
I come from a tech and AI background, but I’ve seen close friends and family grind through years of JEE prep. The problems were always the same:
Repetition of questions in coaching centers.
Lack of personalization in mock tests.
Students burning out without smart feedback.
That frustration stuck with me. Generative AI (especially with GPT-4 and its ability to synthesize academic content) felt like the tool to fix it.
The JEE exam demands mastery across physics, chemistry, and math. But coaching platforms are:
Mostly static content,
Expensive for tier-2/3 city students,
And rarely adaptive.
Students don’t need more questions—they need the right questions, at the right time.
Prepple.ai generates personalized JEE practice tests using AI. You pick a topic, difficulty, or test pattern, and it builds a custom test on the fly. It also:
Evaluates your performance.
Suggests what to work on next.
And tracks mastery trends over time.
✅ MVP launched
🧪 Piloting with 40+ real students.
❤️ Feedback: “Feels like a personal tutor.”
🛠️ Working on integrating question difficulty calibration and timed mocks. Also test creation platform to selective users based on scores.
Start tiny, but ship often
Niche > Broad – I focused only on JEE, not NEET or school boards.
Students want motivation as much as material – Feedback loops, streaks, and small wins matter.
Tier-2 city outreach through telegram/WhatsApp communities.
Building trust – AI-generated questions are great, but I need teachers to vouch for accuracy.
Monetization – Freemium or one-time packs? Still testing.
I’d love to learn from you. 🙏
