Alt MBA- anyone tried it? Love Seth Godin
by
Brendan Cahill
Anyone here ever try Alt MBA by Seth Godin?
It's worth it but you need to understand what you're getting, which is going to be mostly training in how to think about business at a high level. E.g. how to think about what makes a business idea good or bad, how to think about goal setting, how to think about measurement, etc. If you're looking to learn mental frameworks that will benefit you over the next several decades of your career then it's great, if you're looking for some new SEO trick that will increase your sales in two weeks then it's probably not a good fit.
Thanks! I did his This Is Marketing Seminar and really enjoyed it. They use Discourse as their learning platform and do a good job of having coaches run smaller cohorts within each class. Did you do this program? How has it helped change your business?
I did the original version of the Alt MBA, when it was six months and taught in person by Seth himself. So not really comparable, although that version became the basis for the current version, and I know folks who have taken (and taught) the current version.
In terms of affecting one's business, it's more likely to have a bigger impact on the longterm trajectory of your career rather than on one specific business. It's definitely possible that you'll go into it and discover some problem with your business that you didn't know you had, and come out with a much better business overnight. But more likely the benefit will be that you'll just look at the world and your interactions with other people slightly differently ways, and this new perspective will accrue small benefits that compound over decades.
Thanks Alex for this! I did the Story Teller course and didn’t enjoy it as much but I also didn’t do as much research to know that Seth wouldn’t be the sole teacher on that one.
I’ve heard about it and curious about, interested to hear opinions as well..!
If you’re looking for a nice first experience I’d try the marketing seminar course first by them.
