Hi,
I have a problem and I would know if some people could be have the same problem in order to develop and sell a solution.
The usecase is very simple
I have created a mobile application.
I know 10 people who could share my application in their media (blog, facebook etc...)
I would like to know the number of installation generated by each people. I mean, I don't want analyze the click on the link but the real installation in the device.
For example :
Have you ever encountered this problem ?
I know there are some solutions (https://www.appsflyer.com ...) but it seems to huge for my need.
If I'm the only person in the world to have this need, it would mean that it's not interesting to develop.
Thanks for your participation ;)
My original comment here suggested branch.io didn't have anything about GDPR up. Either they were very fast or some weird caching happened because it's now there. https://branch.io/gdpr/ and there's a link to it at the bottom of their home page.
This is highly commoditized feature available for free in many offerings - branch, google analytics, etc.
How do you know that it works with google analytics ? It seems it’s not possible to determine if an user has installed the application from a link or not.
Maybe I wrong.
Ok for branch.io, did you use it ?
And what do you mean by « etc » ? I would be interested 🙂
Yes I did use branch for exactly that - a user in my app could unlock a feature by either either buying in-app or sharing a link and having 3 friends installing an application.

Ok and for you this software is perfect ?
it had a well-documented SDK, dashboard and worked out of the box.
Ok so do you consider that it would be not interesting to create a similar application more simple ?
I think branch is simple enough and they have free starter plan. you'll have a tough time trying to win their entry-level customers.
as an indie developer, I'd be more interested in a service which would post about my app on autopilot :-)
Are you here ?
I'm not sure to understand : what do you mean by "autopilot". Sorry I'm french, may be it's a british or american expression that I ignore :)
Autopilot means it happens automatically without distracting you. Either as outsourced service or automated.

I run the growth team at a well funded startup and we use branch.io for this. I find it to be the best solution for mobile app downloads that don't come from your social media campaigns or there identifiable sources. The issue with mobile analytics is that the App Store is a black hole..meaning that no tracking data will get passed. Branch is one way to hack around it.
Ok and what do you think about branch.io ?
How was the experience ?
Any drawbacks ?
Thanks
I find it to be the best tool for this particular problem. If anyone else has a better solution, please tell me.
Facebook SDK will track anything from Facebook. App Store itself will also tell you what's the source if that's all you need, but Branch is the only tool that gives me more info. For example I don't just need to know which channel my most valuable users came from, I need to know which specific campaign or post they clicked before converting.
Of course, then you could get fancy and implement an attribution model but that's not an indie hacker thing :D
The only issue we had was integrating Branch and Amplitude. The data wasn't displaying properly but I didn't know which one of the two service was causing the issue. After weeks of trying to solve this I realized that even if the data wasn't displayed properly in Amplitude, it was actually stored so now I just export the raw data to look at anything I need.
We currently track install attribution via referral links with branch (https://branch.io). In terms of "does the problem exist?" the answer is certainly yes. Also, I'm not a huge fan of branch, so maybe there is something to the simplicity angle
Oh great. Could you develop more why you are not a huge fan of branch ? It could be interesting to know :)
I think they have a lot going on that's geared towards marketers and less towards developers. We just needed a small piece of their offering... granted we don't pay anything for it so I can't complain too much
Ok.
Is there any reason that you could pay for ?
