An App To Help Animals?!

Hey Luis, I'd start by researching the market and interviewing someone who tried to adopt an animal. You could uncover specific pain points in the process like bureaucracy, availability in certain areas, high price etc.

Does this include animal information, such as their preferred living areas, fastest animals, cats, dogs, etc.?

I think it's a great problem to work on in general. And to see if your app would be viable, we need to work out some more details. E.g. it would be good to have a clear description of the pain point.

I would say that helping animals in need is a great idea. Not so sure that an app that helps people adopt rescues is a good idea, however. Let me tell you why.

I'm a legitimate breeder for working and assistant dogs. I have a huge problem with non-profit organizations that claim to be "rescues." Often - and I'm not sure of the numbers - these rescues actually lowball backyard breeders hoping they will score a deal on a puppy. When they do, they post it up for sale at a higher price. It's not a rescue, it's a business. I personally (and unfortunately) know 2 people who do this for a living. There are a number of these scumbags that do this locally here, and I'm sure everywhere.

As well, dog theft and resale is a huge scammy business. Once animals cross state lines in the US for example, or across country borders, there is nothing you can do to get your dog back, even if he is tattoo'd and chipped. There is a large dog theft problem, and this is how they get away with it. Once stolen, they sell and ship them to another country (or state) via another "rescue", at the destination someone takes a picture of the animal when it looks sad, and suddenly you as a customer think this dog needs "rescuing". It does, but only because it was stolen from its owner, not because it was homeless or neglected.

So you have to beware of people who claim to be helping animals vs people who really are helping animals. There are real "rescues" out there who do a magnificent job, but unfortunately they are far and few between.

If you made an app that made adoption easier, you'd be making it easier for the scammers and fake rescues. I would encourage you to consider this fact when and if you create an app.
