An observation about who shares my articles

I write about real world marketing examples. What I've noticed is that an overwhelmingly large % of the people who share my articles I'm in regular contact with and I have taken the time to reply properly on email.

On 4,5,6 different occasions I've wrote thoughtful replies back to an email and then the very next day I see they're promoting my site on Twitter (or even including me in their newsletter) It's actually quite spooky.

What this taught me is that behind every email is a very real person who I have the privilege of trying to turn into a real fan.

Once my site grows to 100k subs I will no longer have this privilege. So I should make the most of it whilst I can.

This also makes me think of all the emails I left unopened for a few weeks and all the potential opportunities I was missing out on.

Interesting. Real-time karma, you could say. :)

People really, really value being taken seriously. Not to mention you make a connection.

This reminds me of how companies who offer a fantastic support experience can turn people into evangelists.

Yep. Indeed. Nice point with the companies

Yea I think we all lose sight of the quality vs quantity concept sometimes - I know I do all the time - and reading this post made me check myself right away.

I think I get caught up in wanting more votes, more eyes, more likes - but really - it's the few likes and comments written from real people that are worth the most. These are your real supporters, real customers - the ones you need in your corner as you grow.

    1. 1

Yep. Spot on. Couldn't have said it any better myself.

By "subs" do you mean email subscribers, or something else?

    1. 2

      Yep, email subscribers :)

      1. 2

        100k is a huge list!

        1. 1

          I've got huge goals!

Thanks for sharing! This is very interesting.

I'd love to learn how these email threads initially get started. Are they newsletter subscribers who began by asking a question about marketing?

    1. 1

Yep. The ps on my email says: "If you want to get in touch just reply to this email"

      So I get quite a few :)

      1. 1

Haha, that's clever! It's so much better than those "noreply" email addresses.

This is really true, in fact one of the reasons I really liked one creator was because he replied to my inquiry in great detail. Now he's blown up so much that the most communication he can have with me is a 'like' on Twitter lool. I mean, I totally understand and respect his situation; but gotta admit not getting a comment at all kills the fandom quite a bit.

And I'm not exactly sure when, but will def include you in my future newsletter as well! 🙃

Hahah! Yeah, I've had exactly the same experience with someone. And I feel the same way. There are some musicians who keep time for their fans even when they hit crazy heights. And you can always see the diffreence it makes.

And that's very nice of you Shin. Nice to hear from you again.

harry I am so excited for the day when I see the email from you "Marketing Examples just hit 1,000,000 subscribers!"

You keep grinding and putting in that work that you do - you'll get there.

It's not an if but a when.

    1. 1

Haha! 1 million! That's crazy. But Cheers Nick! I'll take 10,000 first.
Then I've just got to repeat that 100 times over!

This is such a good insight. I’ve never really thought about it, but when I have a good interaction or two with someone, I try amplify essentially anything they’re sharing or promoting from then on.

The same applies (at a lesser scale) if I listen to someone on a podcast and it was super insightful.

Cheers Ramy. Glad you enjoyed it. Only really struck me this past week!

In the world of chatbots, automated phone systems and AI being thrown at everything, the true rarity is direct human interaction. It's wonderful that you take this time, and I hope you will be able to continue to do so even at 100k - you will just need better filters.

    Fan-Potential-Assessment-as-a-Service... hm.... :)

I very much appreciate your content, in writing, in comments and in the podcast appearances I had the pleasure listening to. I wish you the very best of luck, Harry.

Thank you very much Arvid! Very nice of you to sa

And yes, it's a very good point you make. And because it's "rarer" now people are touched even more by it.

Congratulations with your success with Feedback Panda . Awesome MRR! If you ever have any great "marketing examples" please do let me know :)

Hey Harry, thanks! I've been following your project and the podcast appearances you made with great interest. Quite inspiring :)

Here is an example for you. In marketing, we have found to leverage our community. We serve teachers, and they are naturally prone to help each other, tell stories and share knowledge. This might be different for other audiences, but usually, there is always a water cooler where people hang out, be it teachers, developers, theater stagehands or what have you.

We took a look at that water cooler and listened. And it turned out that the stories people resonated with most were very personal. "Here is how my life is better when I use FeedbackPanda"-like stories have been a resounding success. It's the old adage of talking about the customer, not the product, but with the twist that it's a customer talking about their own experience, not you talking about the customer. In a highly engaged audience with a community that loves stories, that will bring you a lot of exposure.
