An ode to small businesses with dumbfoundingly beautiful (developed) domain names

I love how @searchbound geeks out on domains, so I thought I'd spread the love here. ❤️

This ode is copied over from his Twitter thread. 😇

Firewood.com

This site warms my heart. Premium Minnesota Firewood. Shipped. Bundled, Boxed, Bagged, or Cord Wood. Split, chunks or chips.

Firewood

Litterbox.com

This domain expired back in 2014, & I was in the auction, but stopped bidding at $2,800. Domain sold for $4,999. New owners have created a gem - a subscription box business for cats.

Litterbox

SewingMachine.com

While I developed CallTracking, com, I had coffee with another founder, and unbeknownst to me, across the street a logo reading: http://SewingMachine.com. In ATL. I had a hard time focusing on conversation cause domain was so neat.

SewingMachine

Beachballs.com

Another neat story; a family-run business, they originally owned the domain cause it was a nickname. They dipped their toe in the beachball business in 2009, and nowadays stock 125,000 beach balls in 500 different styles.

Beachballs

Cajun.com

Yes, beautiful. Gulf shrimp, Crawfish, Alligator meat, Oysters, Turducken, or any other Cajun food. Perfection.

Bobbleheads.com

My friend Warren runs this site. A humble genius. Started like I did; bought the domain first, then figured out how to build a business around it. Had zero experience. Now employs over 13 folks north of Atlanta. Making & shipping Bobbleheads.

Bobbleheads

Weld.com

Welding and fabrication how-to videos and tutorials. Simple. Perfect.

Weld

Peppers.com

Sells 1,000 hot sauces, and hundreds of barbecue sauces, dry rubs and zesty spices. Operated by Chip Hearn, a Hot Sauce Hall of Fame inductee.

BikeTours.com

Based in Chattanooga, TN. Helps travelers plan & book bike tours across Europe. Was originally BikeToursDirect, com - they wisely upgraded.

BikeTours

Banjo.com

Based in Wedowee, Alabama & operated by banjo player Barry Waldrep. All their banjos are made in the USA. I like the sound of that.

Banjo

Onions.com

I've heard about this guy. Appears he's still trying to find an identity for this project.

Onions

That's it. Really no point of this tweet deck. Just to showcase that small businesses can, and do, operate off great .com domain names. It gives us a leg up on the big guys. It's our stake in the dirt that they can't take away. And levels the playing field.

Compared to other industries, the technology associated with embroidery machines has not changed that fast. So, a 10-20 year-old machine can still be perfectly good. However, old machines might have obsolete cables and memory cards that you may not be able to use . best affordable embroidery machine
