I recently released a small project I built to check where a movie or tv show was streaming in my country.
There are of course existing websites that do just that, justwatch being the most popular. But I was not happy with justwatch, I find the UI too crowded with lots of distraction. I just wanted a simpler interface that even my kids could use when checking where a movie was available. As I'm a web developer, it was a good excuse to build something and I thought I might as well release it just in case someone else would find it useful too.
In order to gain traction, I decided to post my project on reddit in /r/InternetIsBeautiful (rank #24 on reddit in terms of size). The results were mind blowing: the post was featured on the homepage with more than 500K views in just a few days and around 1.1K upvotes. Overall people seemed to find the project useful so I was pretty happy. Of course there will always be grumpy people and I also received some harsh feedbacks :)

I don't have any analytics set up on the website so I'm not sure how it translated in terms of visits but I'm logging the movies/tv shows lookups and the number has been growing steadily since the post.
I don't have big plans for this project, I just hope it can be a useful resource for people wondering where they can watch a movie/tv show.
The exposure brought by reddit was amazing and it shows it can be a really powerful medium when launching an online product.
What about you? Have you already launched something on reddit? How did it translate in terms of visits / sales?
Amazing idea, love it! Always was annoying af to find where a show was available, as you said, the available app's UI were badly made
Gonna launch on Reddit soon!
For analytics, check SimpleAnalytics (cheap) or Google Analytics (free), both are easy to install!
Thanks, I hope you find it useful!
Good luck for your launch on Reddit 🤞
I'm not sure I'm gonna add an analytics solution but thanks for the recommendations!
