The new AI model achieves state-of-the-art coding performance, while the command-line tool enables direct delegation of engineering tasks.
Anthropic just released Claude 3.7 Sonnet, its most advanced AI model to date. The company also launched Claude Code, a new command-line tool for developers.
This matters because the consensus seems to be that Anthropic ships the best coding AI models. (This was already true with Claude 3.5 Sonnet, so it's proving to be even more true with the launch of Claude 3.7.)
As a result, lots of indie hackers use Anthropic's models to power their products:
So let's take a look at the new features and what indie hackers are saying.
Anthropic's new AI model is a “hybrid reasoning model,” meaning it can either produce near-instant responses or extended step-by-step thinking.
Accordingly, the feature set breaks down like this:
Extended thinking mode for improved performance on complex tasks
API controls for fine-tuning the model's thinking time and token usage
State-of-the-art performance on real-world coding benchmarks
In a word, it seems to be more "adaptable":
Anthropic designed Claude Code to assist developers directly within their terminal. It's currently available as a limited research preview.
For the most part, it boils down to the following three features:
Executes routine tasks
Explains complex code
Handles Git workflows
Of all the positive reviews I came across, the one that came up the most often was how effective the new model is at "one-shotting" code:
Claude 3.7 Sonnet might have even sped up the release of other companies' AI-powered products.
Replit founder Amjad Masad took to X today to announce the launch of Replit Agent v2, which lets users describe app ideas in natural language — like “create a subscription landing page”— and generates a working prototype. Revealingly, he gave Anthropic's new model a shoutout in his announcement post:
If I were Webflow, or Envato, or any of those no-code tools that spent years convincing people they were the future, I’d be sweating bullets right now. Because the future just showed up wearing different shoes.
While Webflow and company are still sending out newsletters about their latest update, the machine has already learned to do it better, faster, and without needing a subscription.
So yeah, if I were them, I wouldn’t be sleeping well. Or I’d at least start keeping the lights on at night...
I believe the future of SaaS will be built internally and customized for each company by each company.
I still think tools like webflow cater to an audience that doesn't know how to work with alt tools and they have integrations and abilities that you simply don't get, like a marketplace function, from current llm based tools. They'll continue to run what they have and integrate vs compete with the new functionality available from LLMS.
One thing about Anthropic is they let people do all the marketing for them. They focus on making amazing products and people see it and it's all they talk about. Claude 3.5 was amazing and now 3.7 is even better. A valuable lesson in business. Make good products that help people out and they'll root for you anywhere.
Claude 3.7 Sonnet sounds impressive, especially with the hybrid reasoning mode. But I’m curious—has anyone here tested it against GPT-4.5 or DeepSeek-R1 for actual product dev work?
All of these tools that make building faster all make me think one thing: The people who are really winning are the marketers. Because while projects are launched more quickly, human attention span isn't increasing. So the ability to get attention on a project will be even more in demand.

Wow, this sounds like a game-changer! I’ve been following the progress of Claude models for a while now, and it’s really cool to see how much more refined 3.7 is compared to previous versions. That hybrid reasoning model, where it can switch between fast answers and deep, step-by-step thinking, seems like it’ll save a lot of time for both simple and complex tasks.
Also, the fact that they’re now integrating tools like Claude Code for Git workflows is huge. Handling routine tasks and explaining code directly in the terminal is going to make things so much smoother for devs. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out in real-world projects.
