Any designer who would want to co-found a Quotation Generator website

Hi,

What

We have built a quick prototype of a Quotation Generator in the last few days.

Why

In the past, we have had to send an estimate/quotation to prospective clients and could not get a good solution that would generate an estimate quickly with a good design. And we decided to build one.

Plan/Goal

The current plan is to make this project more impactful than monetization. We are hopeful that it will give more exposure and improving the branding of our company and the designer in the long term.

Offered Benefits to users

  • This site will possibly offer good estimate templates for various industries.
  • It runs on the browser only i.e. No data is sent to the server which means that users can use it without worrying about sharing confidential information.
  • If there is a good response, we can quickly develop an API for dynamic/bulk generation.

Who am I

My name is Gaurav and I run a small Web development company in India called Freshbits. We offer custom web development services to the clients worldwide and the goal this new year is to work on the ideas that solve a real problem.

Who are you

You are a designer who is willing to co-found this and design various parts of this quotation generator and also some good templates that users can use to quickly generate quotations.

Doubts

There are many more aspects to making this solution impactful than just design and development. How do we bring users to the site? I have some ideas but nothing is planned. This is still at a very early stage. Open to discussions and ideas.

P.S. The upcoming year may bring you joy success and happiness. Wishing you a very happy new year.

P.P.S. We are also looking for a marketer co-founder for a Gym SaaS.

There's been way too many of these posts offering "exposure" or "showcasing" for designers on IH lately. It's not wrong to ask for help but promising exposure is the quickest way to make sure no one will help. Just exploitative.

Yep. Designers looking for exposure have behance, dribble, etc. This would be plain free work.

This is a valid point Nicolás. Thanks.

I would like to request your thoughts on this too.

Thanks for taking the time and sharing your opinion Ben.

You're right. If I would be in a designer's shoes, I would think twice before jumping into something like this unless I am really sold on the idea and have trust in my co-founder.

I am curious about your thoughts on what other options have I got, as a technical co-founder, to attract a good designer for collaboration on this idea. Would it just be a paid gig for this specific case?

I'm not trying to beat up on you here, it seems like you have good intentions. Unfortunately that's not always the case. There are lot's of people out there attempting to take advantage of designers who are just trying to get real projects to work on (not easy when you're first starting out). Imagine asking your plumber to work for free and in return you promise to tell everyone who uses the bathroom about their handiwork.

I've done many hours of free work for folks here on IndieHackers but that's only because I was interested in what they were trying to build and could partner with the them to create something better than we could separately.

Just something to think about in the future, good luck with your product!

          Thanks again. Noted.

          Have a great weekend, Ben.

IMHO, if you don't have the budget to hire a designer, I think you should go just fully transparent/honest and ask if somebody would like to help, or maybe join as a partner.

          Thanks again.

The plan is to co-found with the designer but I was not clear enough in the post, sorry.

The title was "Any designer who would want to showcase Invoice designing skills". I just changed it to be clear and specific now.

          I appreciate your help. Cheers.
