Any interest in a "personal daily standup"?
One thing I've been doing recently is using my notebook to write down a couple "big" tasks that I want to complete each day and then cross them off as I go. I only have 3-5 tasks that I know I can complete each day and I usually write them down at the beginning of the day.
I've recently started recording a video of myself doing planning out my day. I don't necessarily have to chat with anyone else, I don't need validation from anyone, and I am doing it just for fun. I think it would hold me even more accountable if they were "public" videos but I'm curious if anyone else would be interested in a type of "accountability" behind this?
High level:
- Every morning or right before you start work, you record a video of yourself outlining the tasks that you are going to complete
- The video is then uploaded to your profile and, depending on your privacy settings, it can be viewed by other people
There can obviously be more that adds onto that as a way to tie into projects, IndieHackers, etc. but that's the basic idea.
Thoughts? Yay? Nay?
OK, so my first reaction to this was "ehhh probably not for me", but then the more I thought about it, the more I think this could be very interesting.
I imagine the idea is similar to sharing a todo list in public, which has had success, but even more so because it's video and even more personal. Obviously it will take a while to get there, but I could see someone like Gary V. doing something like this. Heck, he basically does some version of that now, even though it's more inspirational.
Perhaps make the videos easily shareable to the other social media platforms, make everything default to public and perhaps have a premium feature to make it private (could this be used for remote teams eventually?) and I could see some iteration of it working. I think it's an idea worth looking into more if you think you'd get something out of it.
I had the same reaction! At first I was like “‘nah” but the more you dive into it, the more you can see some of how it could grow.
You brought up some great points too. I think remote teams could have a “private” area where videos would only be uploaded to that area and then it serves as a sort of “checkin.”
I’ll have to look at those Gary V videos though to see where it works for him. Maybe they need to be time capped like under 3 minutes long or something?
Yeah, probably a good idea to keep it short and shareable, at least early on. I'd definitely look into it more. I could see some version of this working. Worst case, from your post it sounds like you'd personally get some value out of it. You really only need 1 other person for you to get a benefit if it keeps you more accountable.

Great idea man! Was at a programming Hackathon in May, and my team built a blockchain based, goal-driven social network. Buzzy, right? What that basically means, is that each person has his/her own profile, where they post different goals (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly).
Those posts are shared with his social network, and you can accumulate claps. After a person has finished his goals, a couple people from his social network need to "verify" that he has in fact finished the goal. Only then does the person accumulate the claps.
The goals are stored on a blockchain, so they are immutable. No hiding your failure due to procrastination. The scary thing is, that your social network will receive a notification whether you fail a goal, or attain it.

Wow that's very interesting. Great idea for a hackathon and sounds like it was very successful. I'd love to check it out if it's up and running?
