Any luck with emailing publications of new product?

As we get ready to launch our first product, I have been trying to compile a list of publications to send our nicely shined up slide deck to. In the middle of this tireless effort, I started to wonder if it was worth my time?

Any thoughts on this? Also, anyone have tips/tricks on successful methods of trying to achieve the same type of outcome?
