Any recommendations of simple SEO tools?

Hey IHers,

After posting How did you make it without social media?, I realized many success stories were built on SEO. So I told myself, maybe I should focus on this to reach new people?

Thing is, besides the keywords "strategy", I don't know a lot about SEO. Would you any simple tool to improve my websites rankings - and interesting resources about the topic?

I ask "simple" because I already saw SEO tools that looked like "gas factories" to me, I don't really want to waste time with useless graphes and stats 😂

Ahrefs has so many free tools - https://ahrefs.com/free-seo-tools. Each one of them is easy to use and gives very useful advices

Thanks, I'll check, maybe it'll better than Google Trends suggestions!

I use KatLinks.io because the pricing is super indie hacker friendly. You get all of the niceties of the big tools like Ahrefs and SEMRush, but with kinder pricing 😍

That's what I like to read!! Thanks a lot!

May I promote my own tools :)
    https://linkody.com for backlink monitoring.
https://indexcheckr.com for checking if your pages are indexed.
https://linkstorm.io for building relevant internal links (free)
https://www.linkody.com/en/seo-tools/website-authority-checker to quickly getting several metrics for assessing the authority of a site (free)

They are very user-friendly and easy to use.

Apart from my own tools, I use https://kwfinder.com for keyword research and GSC.

Thanks! Any self-promotion is welcomed, it's nice to learn from tools from fellow Indie Hackers 🤙

I will browse the tools you've suggested 👉 I see that you have built products mainly around (back)links; I'm not that knowledgeable yet, but I'm learning!

Ubersuggest and Google Search Console are 2 main free tools that you can use to build up your organic reach. You can find guides for both these 2 tools on YouTube.

Also, I’ve fared much better results with Fiverr freelancers who specialize in SEO.

    1. 1

      Thanks for the suggestion @JKalan!

How far did you go with the Fiverr outsourcing? Did the freelancer take care of the "whole" SEO process, or did they only suggest keywords and stuff?

      1. 1

NEVER buy those ‘suggestions’ gigs. Those are BS. There are dozen of told that’ll let you do that and more.

The guy I hired was a backlinks builder. I was a little skeptical too at first, but after a month and a half, my rankings were improved. After about 2-3 months, I was getting organic traffic in thousands, that I didn’t need to do any promotion for the site.

Thank you for the advice @JKalan. May I also know how much you usually pay for the 'good' gigs (and how you identify them other than ratings). Apparently there are lots of false positives on fiverr.

          1. 2

All the gigs I’ve used were around $10-20. They were real bargains.

There’s a lot of fake reviews in Fiverr, and there are marketplaces that sell them as well. But you can always check the projects they’ve worked. They’re featured along with the gig pictures. It’s what I do. Worked fine for me.

Thanks for the pieces of advice! I strongly consider this option 👉

When it comes to creating content, posts, articles, you can also have a look at https://answerthepublic.com/ - you can dive quite deep into the tool and pay for features, but just a simple search is free and will give you quite some ideas if used right.

Oh the name sounds familiar to me, I see it's quite original as a concept, I'll def have a look! Thanks!

    The Ahref's Site Audit -> https://ahrefs.com/site-audit

It will crawl your website form time to time, and send you the reports on email. That way you can be informed when you got errors like: 404, meta description too long, or else.

To know when you got new back-link, or lose few. So t is a friend who constantly without charging looking your app SEO health.

    My 2 cents -

I mostly use SEMRush's free part. SEMRush was totally free until end of 2021, now I only use their free version for some basic position tracking and backlinks especially new backlinks.

I also quickly check https://ahrefs.com/backlink-checker for my SEO scores every now and then.

And Google search console for organic reach and keywords.

Thanks, I'll have a look at those!

I'm using ubersuggest. Bought their live time deal a while ago but the have a free version to get going. Tool is OK but I don't have a lot comparison. It's a bit slow, maybe because I'm in Europe.

    1. 1

Ok, thanks for the suggestion! I am also in Europe, so maybe I should watch this too 😶‍🌫️

The best SEO tools are free and (pretty) simple:

    • Google trends to get content idea
    • Google Search Console for indexing, performance, analysis of keyworkds

In the non-free, Semrush is probably the easiest tool to master and is pretty powerful

ahref is fantastic but pretty expensive and hard to master

      Thanks!

Google trends to get content idea

I currently use it, but I find it a bit messy and sometimes even buggy. The content is not always well presented.

I'll have a look at this!

ahref is fantastic but pretty expensive and hard to master

That is actually the only SEO tool I knew until now. I saw the fees, and indeed they pushed me back 😅

And I just saw Semrush was even more expensive than Ahrefs 😂

Yeah... it used to be wayyy cheaper, now both tools are in the expensive range!

          1. 1

OK, I'll search for cheaper alternatives then... and hopefully simple ones!
