Any room for another (productivity + communication) app?

Hi

I recently saw some room improvement in a popular communication app. I listed down some features that would its users more productive and efficient.

Later after further research, I found 2 apps (if used together) would solve the problems by "improvements" were addressing. They are quite different from the original app but still a competitor.

  1. Would it make sense for me to work on a product that essentially is just a combination of the two products and some extra features (maybe, still working on it)?

  2. Assuming (a big assumption!) my product will be better than others (all three individually), is there any room for another productivity app? People don't usually change their work process.

Good thought process but also very challenging @akshitkrnagpal

Would be great if you can describe what makes your product unique concretely.

I think the answer for a hybrid product is https://getstation.com/

      Thank you.

Yeah. I know I didn't exactly mention what my idea is. That is partly because I wanted to know what should be done in such a situation and not just for this project. My product will be unique and would target a pain point in the application (1st case). But for 2nd case (other two apps) it can be better in user experience but pain point is something they are also solving.

The Station app is cool but not what I have in mind. I will soon create a landing page for my product (currently working on that) and post it here.

        Appreciate your reply @akshitkrnagpal

Still cannot really understand, maybe my issue

1st case: what is the uniqueness and pain point in the application?

2nd case: which two apps are you talking about and how would you measure user experience?

It depends. Would these improvements solve a frustration with their current solution or just improve on something that they are already happy with?

It’s not enough to simply be better. You need to solve a pain point.

It may make sense to talk to some people in your target market and/or search reviews for those frustrations.

      Thanks for your insights.

Yes, they would target pain points in current application. But that pain point is not present in the other case (using the other two apps combined).

Yeah. I have talked to two people that can be considered my target market. But the product that I came up to solve their problems can be just seen as a combination of the other two apps with a different user interface. TBH I can just be an affiliate that refers to the other product instead of building a product myself.

IMO there probably isnt much space. People don't want one more place to check for productivity. You might be better off and have an easier time reaching more people by making a plugin for existing products, like a slack bot or something that adds the features you wants. You have to be 10X+ better to get anyone to switch from their existing system, and you don't know if what you make from scratch will be

      Thank you for your insights.

I was also thinking of going the route of integrating existing products but I am currently unable to make clear boundaries what to build and what to integrate (I am working on that currently). Will create a new post after that is done.

I know people wouldn't want to migrate from existing tools until they have more to gain than a few more features but how would you go about checking if your product is 10x better?
