Hi Indie hackers,
I am Daniel, product manager of airgram.io
Airgram is a brand new product that can record and transcribe Zoom, Google Meet, and Teams calls for you, so you don't take notes by yourself.
However, we encountered a problem that it's hard for us to promote our product. We tried Ads, but they cost too much, CAC is nearly $9, and we tried to create content, but SEO will take a few months to take effect.
Now we are trying to promote our product on Product Hunt, hope we will be lucky.
Do you know any other efficient promotion channels? Please leave your comment below.
By the way, you could upvote for us here:

If you go the ad route, I’d consider running them in relevant newsletters instead of Google.
But I personally am not a fan of ads. I think you need to niche down hard (off the top of my head, lawyers? secretaries? freelancers? etc.). And contribute to niche communities in a meaningful way.
I’d probably let the product market itself too — at the end of the transcriptions, add a (removable) “Powered by” with a link to your product. And consider life-time deals and referral programs.
Here are a ton of places where you can launch over and over again.
Solid product idea btw!
I don't see a viable thing for freelancers. But what you said about lawyers is simply great! Having a written record of the meeting I think it would be awesome for them. Good advise!
Yes! Fabri, we already have 5,000 users and get some actual user personnel! Customer success managers, Sales, Teachers, Researchers, and Lawyers, will try to promote on those niche communities!
Hi Toni, I agree with you! Thanks for the launch list, that's helpful!
Let the product market itself too, is our GTM strategy, it's the cheapest and the best way to grow! PLG!
We found some niche markets and we will give some Non-Profit-Organization to use our product for Free!
Very useful and nice product!
I believe in promoting products through cold outreach on LinkedIn. I recommend you read this article about promoting there: https://www.demandcurve.com/playbooks/linkedin-organic
Thank you! Kate! Will do!
Hey Daniel,
You can start by submitting your startup on platforms like these: https://prospectss.com/startup-submission-list/
After that you can consider reaching out to your competitor's/related niche & reach out to the interested people using this tool: https://prospectss.com/fb-outreach-gh/
Hey Junaid,
Does prospectss really work? Starter packages start at $49 per month. What is the average monthly traffic increase?
Wow! Thank you! Junaid! Will try it out!
If you really want to get creative you can find forums where people are complaining/asking questions about your competitors and you can try to provide value by offering them a solution and steering them toward your product. This isn't exactly scalable but it might get some wind in your sails.
Congrats on the successful PH launch! 🔥
Haha, thank you so much! Deepspace12! I will find time to post our exp about the PH launch. Do you have any suggested forums?
Try this zoom reddit forum. I checked out the rules and it looks like you should be able to post about your product if it's relevant. People are asking all sorts of questions here and looking for features that may not exist on zoom but are a part of your product. For example, just today someone asked for a zoom alternative that has "a video panel overlay". Maybe your product could be the alternative they are seeking?
I am working on a post on my blog about places where people can for free promote their products. Maybe for some of you that could be helpful:
Thank you so much! Piotr! That's really helpful!
What I teach in my bootstrapper's guide is that makers what to first identify their audience (don't be afraid to go really niche), and find out where they hangout the most. Then use those channels to promote your product by providing value to the community.
Love the product and idea! Since it attaches to a meeting, I’d recommend plugging this into the respective app stores for each video app, such as Zoom Apps: https://explore.zoom.us/docs/en-us/zoom-apps.html
It’s an automated distribution list that you might be able to take advantage of 🤞
⚡⚡
Hi PHPWarrior, great idea! We already have our app on the Zoom marketplace and working on Zoom apps right now!
Amazing! I've always been so curious what distribution inside another marketplace looks like! Wish you the best!
Social media, Community is the best options for market your new product effectively
First of all you should know about the whole concept of your product. you need to segregate the users and then you have to analyse which types of users prefers this. after that try to convey " How your product gives benefit to them".
Marketing ways- SEO, SEM, Social media, Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads, Instagram Ads and Youtube Ads.
I read a story on here yesterday that blew my mind. This company needed to earn an endorsement from a giant company in their space. They had no connections and couldn't reach anyone. So instead of giving up, they bought a giant billboard ad facing their building.
Try to think of something unconventional to land a partner of mutual benefit. Try trade groups or your area's chamber of commerce. Might be worth a shot to get some local connections.
Hey,
If you are thinking or planning to promote a new product https://trendystream.com/stream-vr-on-twitch/845 then you have some social media appearance and for that go with your social handles.
Communities on social media platforms are a great place to create brand awareness.
Places like Reddit, Facebook groups, Twitter lists, discord, here, and a lot more.
Hi there! I'm a marketer of Getscreen.me software. We make a service for remote access from the browser and I'm promoting it. At first we used PH, and it gave good traffic, but then for some reason it went quiet. I also advise using other software accelerators like G2, Trustradius, and Capterra. There you can host for free. You won't get much traffic, but it's enough to get you started. We also cooperate with Appsumo, which gets very good traffic, but there are certain conditions. And, of course, I use the standard sources of promotion, blog on Medium (https://medium.com/@softwareobserver), write guest posts for various sites, keep accounts in social networks. I tried to post on Reddit, but it has very strict moderation, they ban me for any advertising. Now I'm working on making a corporate blog, since I understand, that due to SEO you can also bring in good traffic. In the future we plan to launch paid advertising, but for now we are working on our own. And it is working quite well!)
Good luck, and nice product!
Would love to get Airgram running on Vocal and do some joint marketing efforts. Ping me at chris@getvocal.app
A $9 CAC is awesome! You just need to get your average LTV up to $9. Sounds totally doable.
Wow, Christopher, I checked Vocal, it's cool, like some virtual meeting rooms online. Do you dev the video tool yourself, or do you use an open-source program?
$9 is too much! Try to find some cheap ways to acquire users.
I built the app myself on Electron with Livekit.
I would kill for a $9 CAC. Lets chat.
Great job. But actually, it is always the hardest thing to promote a product, especially a new one. I have checked your product and you are providing an online meeting SAAS. Too many products already. People like using Zoom, and Facebook meetings. It is really difficult.
You have to increase your budget for Ads, SEO, and Email marketing. Try hard and invest more money, you will get more.
Thank you so much! We don't want increase the budget on Ads, try to use that money for product and service improvement! SEO is a good idea, and we're working on it, but meeting-related content is highly competitive.
I would consider Reddit as a means to get the word out there.
Also, you might think about writers' groups and guilds: Journalists, creative writers, legal writers, etc. I can tell you that as a writer, AI transcription tools have been super valuable to me and save me a LOT of time. Perhaps talking to journalistic trade groups and offering them tools could create a conduit to more opportunities.
Agree with you! Bobby! We've already collaborated with some writers, we offer them a free trial account, and if they think the product is valuable, they will write a blog for us. Feel free to let me know if you are interested, I could give you a 1-month free trial!
Stay away from Ads right now. Have you tried writing blog posts about how your product solves a particular pain point?
For example: https://wundergraph.com/blog/10x_faster_implementation_time_for_your_API_with_WunderHub
We talked to our ICP and found out the problems they were having and then wrote a blog post on how our product solves that pain. Blogs work great for SEO and leads.
Btw congrats on the product hunt launch! Amazing job
Hi! Stefan! I agree with you! I don't want to spend more money on ads. I'd rather spend more money on SEO, write more blogs and find some backlinks!
Hi Daniel,
I checked your product and I think it is very useful for businesses. I think social media is the best platform to promote your products to a relevant audience.
Thanks John!
What is your customers lifetime value? I feel like $9 can actually be a good CAC. But it would really depend if that is yo acquire a paying user of one for the free plan. Is that the cost of a paying user?
No, $9 CAC is just for sign up users, so it a little bit high! We don't have a stable sign up to pay conversion right now, we definitely lose money on Ads. And our pricing plan was launched 1 month ago, so it's also hard to tell the LTV.
We offer a free version!
ahh yea, that's a bit high. Maybe influencers in the marketing/productivity or that kind of space could be a good thing to try, although that requires money too. The other option could be direct outreach to small agencies or teams.
Either way it's going to be difficult. Another thing you could try is doing tiktok like teta shared in a post (yesterday I think)
it was nice to see that you should provide this business ideas... https://matkabull.com/
Hi matkabull, thanks for the info. It's seems like a game promotion web.
Hey Daniel, I'd be happy to provide you some growth marketing ideas that don't rely on paid social / performance marketing. Take a look at https://growyourco.io and we can chat
Thanks! Matt, will check it out! Upvoted for you on PH! 😁 Keep in touch!
Promote your products on social media platforms. Create stunning website and publish daily quality content.
Promote your products on b2b networks like capterra, g2, trustradius, startupranking and more.
Optimize your website google seo friendly.
What a great idea! Luke! Trying to make more content every day! Will try B2B website soon!
Hi Daniel. I'm in somewhat of a similar boat!
Sonar also uses transcription (speech-to-text) technology - perhaps like yourself - and I too find myself racking my brains to promote the product.
You could try LinkedIn and offering services (discounts?) to organisations and market the product B2B.
We're more in the B2C space, we're looking to capitalise on our networks to really offer the users state-of-the-art instant transcription.
Happy to connect on twitter if you're interested in a zoom-call / chat!
@solarperimeter
I think the essence of promoting the product should be done organically. Paying for services every single time is simply temporary, and one way to keep your users is to give a good customer support service.
Marketing is hard and I think we are all making it up as we go along. Just try different things to see what works. When I built fabform.io I didn't realize the marketing side was way way harder than building the actual product.
Get active on Twitter, get feedback, validate market fit
PH only works if you have a community on Twitter
Have you tried adjusting your product to a use-case?
For example, students might be one segment that would like to transcribe meetings. Their "job to be done" is to take class notes.
If target students with this use-case, you could go to student forums, FB groups and so on.
So my advice wpuld be: find at least 2 use-cases and try to promote the product with separate landing pages to them.
Rather than exchange boxes that hide what you are adjusting, nonmodal sheets on the workplace's sides don't block what you are managing. Empowering you to continue with working while gadget methods are carried out.
Hi @Daniel_Chen, possibly I can help you out with this. Your product looks great and solves a real big problem (trust me I know after working remotely as a consultant during the last 2 years of the pandemic). I've worked in tech at Fortune 500 companies, Govt and startups in the valley.
I'm launching my business which is all about helping new companies acquire their first users / product market fit. I'm new to IH, so I don't want to leave any promo links. If you want, send me a DM and I'll see what I can do to help.
Not really an idea on how to market, but the page and the product looks 🔥 Well done 👏
Ads could be wrong for the business still but I would check how much you've really tried 'ads' all together. There's Google, Facebook, LInkedin and more. To test any of them you need to spend £1,000+ a month for 3-6 months really.
And if you tried to do it yourself maybe you just did it wrong which is very easy. If you got an agency, most agencies aren't well run 😂
So just make sure not discounting a whole channel from not enough testing.
Hey Daniel! Great work, product looks cool!
Product Hunt is a nice way to get some initial traction but is not a sustainable way to acquire users long term.
It looks like you're targetting other businesses in which case I'd suggest doing direct sales in the beginning. Why? Because you get conversations going with potential users and can respond to their feedback vs just looking at conversion data when doing ads. Most approachable way to do this is cold email, but there are other channels as well.
I've also written a guide about how to do this here: https://blog.wobaka.com/how-to-validate-ideas-and-get-your-first-customers/
If you have the capacity you could also start creating content simultaneously as SEO tends to be a long term game.
First of all, find out who is your client persona.
Then I'd suggest gorilla marketing, it's the best way of breaking the ice with your first sale.
After few sales that's gaining social proof and then paid promotions and organic ones.
Hi Daniel, thank you so much! Will check it out!
You could also try Reddit. I'm sure there are relevant subreddits for enterprises, work from home, etc.
Haha, Allison, thanks for your advice, already tried Reddit but didn't get some good results, don't know what did I do wrong.
if you want - you can share one of your posts and I'll give you feedback if it sticks out! I'm able to build my userbase almost entirely off my Reddit interactions.
Hey Allison,
I'm new to Reddit, when I choose a community and post it gets blocked right away. I can only comment under the posts, but I did not see much benefit from it. How can I promote my product on Reddit? My product : monitup.com
It's probably because your account is too young to post in those communities. They do that to try to control the quality of posts. I would continue commenting! The more you comment, the more mature your account will look.
You could also try posting in not as strict communities such as r/alphaandbetatesters r/indiehackers r/sideproject r/entrepreneurridealong r/roastmyidea.
It's worth noting that Reddit marketing is a long term investment. I think of it as building relationships and contributing to the general cause of the community versus direct promotion (big no no I've seen people get a lot of slack for this). If you do this, I think you'll find natural points to bring up Montiup.
good luck. I'm also need suggestions for promoting new restaurant business. https://princessmarket.com/
Hello I have built a social media community like Instagram and deviantart called 'fumigram' it's running on the domain name fumigram.com for animations, artists and other beautiful work of art and have been doing all I can to get it out there but nothing seems to be working out for me. is there any way I can get this community out there?
I really advise on how to make this into something useful to people
