I have a few Udemy courses and I'm making another.
The amount they sell for and the cut that Udemy takes is insane! but they have great SEO and I do no marketing at all, I also have very limited instructional design experience so I'm pretty happy with it.
Once I feel confident I can create great classes I'll probably move off Udemy and focus on learning more about marketing etc... but I feel it's a great way to get started and currently makes a pretty good chunk of my monthly income.

Late but if I may ask, how long did it take for your course(s) to get to a point where they make a decent amount of income for you?
I thought about it and even spent time creating an in-depth outline after watching all the how-to videos. But I then decided against it.
Udemy, in my opinion is for people who can create multiple courses and not rely just on a few. I say that because your course will not get visibility unless you allow them to discount. They discount $200 courses to $10. Then they take their cut from that.
So you'd have to have thousands of students to make anything.
I believe it's doable, but will take a long time to gain traction.
