Anyone else made the leap from premium-only to freemium?

I just took a huge leap and added a new free account tier for PodQueue, the missing "Listen Later" for audio on the web:

https://podqueue.fm/

Previously, I did a trial-on-signup and had paid accounts exclusively—once your trial ran out, you couldn't really do anything until you subscribed. There's a few problems with that approach, but ultimately my main motivation in implementing a free account tier is that I don't want to wind up shutting the door on a user discovering the product's value just because they weren't able to during the trial period. We all know the feeling of signing up for a service fully intending to kick the tires on it before buying, then for one reason or another we just don't find the time before the trial runs out.

Right now, I'm going with a kind of mix-and-match approach - you get a free trial for PodQueue Premium when you sign up so you can jump right in and experiment with everything risk-free. But once your trial expires you can still use most features, and for casual users who listen to about a podcast a week, the free tier should be completely fine. I'm also excited for the opportunities this opens up for new features I'm looking to add to make subscribing to PodQueue Premium even more compelling!

Anyone else made the leap from premium-only to freemium with their SaaS? Experiences, opinions, lessons learned, or even just feedback on my pricing & plans? 😅

Podia recently moved from a premium to a freemium plan. https://www.podia.com/articles/introducing-podias-free-plan

You can also look forward to introducing sponsorship and programmatic ads on your free plan to monetize your SaaS.
