Anyone here used market research databases to pick a niche?

As Justin Jackson says picking a great market is important. I've been really struggling when it comes to picking a large and fast growing market that has a want to software to solve it's problems or pains. I've been reading a lot of the posts here and it doesn't seem that anyone has made any posts on using market research databases, so I thought I would. So, has anyone used market research databases like Reference USA to find a pick a market?

Some people use "trend tools." There are a few newsletters you can subscribe to hear the latest trends, but they do cost money.

Scratching your own itch is also a good way to pick a problem to solve. You'll probably already have a good network as a result too. For example, a designer who has X problem, probably already knows other designers and where other designers hangout online.
