Anyone interested in a feedback swap?

I'm wondering if anyone is interested in getting user feedback for their startup or application in exchange for giving feedback.

It seems like a lot of people post on here asking for feedback and usually the feedback provided is based on an understandably short interaction (either with a landing page or app).

I know everyone's time is valuable so I'd like to offer a more in-depth feedback swap where I use someone's application in-depth (15 minutes or so) and provide insightful feedback and offer to answer questions in exchange for feedback for my current application Compass, www.letscompass.com.

This thread doesn't have to be just for me, if interested perhaps everyone could comment in the following format in order to find someone to exchange with:

ME: Location: USA, Role: Software developer, Industry: E-Commerce

IDEAL TESTER: USA based user who shops online and uses Chrome Extensions

    I'm in!

ME: Location: London, role: commercial strategy startup consultant, industries: many... e-commerce, comparison, affiliates

IDEAL TESTER: happy for anyone with a decent UX background but in particular anyone with a sports / nutrition connection

    My startup... www.spotter.online

I'm happy to help, is there anything I should do? Or should I just go check out the landing page and provide feedback?

      1. 1

Actually we have a new landing page we're just releasing...

        http://lewisyoung.co.uk//spotter/Spotter - landing page - v3-3/index.html

I'd love to hear what you think. Also let me know how I can help you!

        1. 1

Hey Jules, I went over Spotter and watched the video, I'm sorry to say but I have no critiques! I thought it was very well explained, after watching the video I understood what Spotter did and how it would benefit me (The personal trainer).

How does the payment work? Do you just send an affiliate link? How do the nutrition stores sign up and offer discounts? As a user, that part was a bit confusing for me.

Other than that, I think it was awesome!

          1. 1

Ah thanks so much, that's great to hear. On the mechanics of it - you're by nature of being on IndieHackers a slightly more advanced user than our trainers. Many will not know what an affiliate link is (some do, of course, but many don't). Part of what we do is remove the need for them to have any idea how it works. They're paid through PayPal, and that's explained within their account.

Can I look at something for you?

            1. 1

Okay, I think that's enough of an explanation then. How to the customers receive links? It's it through the app, or email? I think it would be important to hide the fact that the trainers are being paid for recommendations, otherwise it may seem like their recommendation is biased.

For me, it would be awesome if you could go to: https://tinyurl.com/compassdownload and test out the app. However, the app is primary for US customers as of now, so it may not work super well on sites like Amazon.uk, you'll probably have to go to the .com version. Any feedback on the landing page would also be awesome: https://letscompass.com.

Hi, I'm so sorry I missed the notification that you'd replied. Delayed but hopefully still useful! Funnily enough I worked in comparison sites for 8 years in the UK.

Biggest piece of feedback - your landing page doesn't explain what you do in the header. If I came to that page cold, I wouldn't understand what you were enough to be motivated to scroll down as there's nothing in the top to suggest why I should do so. I think you need a tagline, video or infographic slap bang in the middle.

Also, this is one of my mates' businesses in the UK that you might find interesting, it's been acquired now: http://getinvisiblehand.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/

                1. 1

                  Hey Jules,

Thanks for the feedback, I agree I need a good explainer video right at the top, and have the fold a bit higher up so people can see there is more.

Does your mate still work at invisible hand? Can you disclose who acquired them?

What if I just have an idea that is in validation phase. What do you do that with :D

    1. 1

I'm still happy to listen an give my two cents in exchange for feedback on Compass, if this works let me know and we can either do a call or you can just reply here

      1. 1

        Sure. Lets do it tomorrow.

  3. 1

Yes I'm interested, you can email me (rjbrown at gmail). I prefer not to post mine on the board until launch, but will share via email.

Ideal testers for me are chrome users (on computer not mobile) and someone who likes pop music (not necessarily today's though) and especially someone has played an instrument.

    1. 1

Shot you an email, looking forward to trying it out

    Hi Casey,
Would love to do a swap. I'm definitely your target user. Want to email respective instructions for testing? I'm gil [at] astra.finance.

    1. 1

Hey Gil, just shot you an email. If you don't get it, feel free to reach out to me directly at casey [at] letscompass.com

  5. 1

Sure, let's do a feedback swap. How do you want to do it?

    1. 1

Is there a website or app you'd like me to try out? Let me know and I'm happy to sign up and test it out.

For me, it would be great if you could go to www.letscompass.com, follow the download flow, and maybe try it on a few E-commerce stores and let me know what you think.

      1. 1

Sure, there's a website I would like you to try out.

        Here is the url: outrankio.com

I would like to hear your feedback too.

I am gonna get back on yours.

        1. 2

Signed up and checked it out, here is some feedback, I will start with the good:

          1. Awesome graphics, looks professional
          2. The backlinks search works great and feels very clean

Some improvements that can be made:

          1. Add a favicon, it will make you look more professional

          2. From the landing page, just looking before scrolling down, it's really hard to tell what you do. Once I signed up it became more clear, but I wouldn't start with your 360 degree platform description. Just say "We do X and X ", you can become more general later. But for now, I just want to know exactly what it can do for me. The backlink search worked great, there's no harm in saying "We do badass backlink searches"

          3. Price pages looks really weird, I think a CSS issue. Check on Mac screen.

          4. Definitely don't have that fotolia watermarked image on the landing page.

          5. Keyword Search didn't work for "Price comparison" maybe a bug?

          6. Q&A page, the first one has a typo: "Q&A: Why come hereuse Outrankio for keyword research and backlink tracking when I can use free online tools?"

My overall thoughts, the backlink search is awesome, clean, and works great. I'd focus on that and make the landing page very clear you have an awesome easy to use backlinks tool.

          1. 1

            Thanks for the feedback, Casey.

There is a favicon but when you log in it just breaks for some reason. Gonna look into that.

Yeah, there are many bugs with this old site. I am currently redesigning it with my new site. You can check out this url: http://hipdev.co/n/outrankio/html3/

Gonna fix the tagline and the errors you have spotted.

        2. 1

Your website gets straight to the point.

Find cheaper and better prices. Better in this context means finding cheaper prices for items you are shopping for.

The design is simple and phenomenal. Clear CTA button.

          Suggestions on improving the product:

          1. Save money via coupons, cashback. If someone checkouts for that item, then click on your icon, these coupons can be applied which helps save even more money. Maybe you can add that feature in the future
          2. Improve database for greater accuracy and listing. I know you just started so there aren't many items for the tool to compare yet. Maybe partner up with big retailers, etc., etc.
          3. Real-time alerts where the consumer instantly receives an alert on their browser about price changes.
          4. Let Compass do the work for you rather than opening a separate tab and searching for coupons and sales from various sites, you just shop as usual.
          5. Gather a community. Get the word out there. Marketing and exposure for your browser extension.

These are some that I can think of for now.

          1. 1

Hey, awesome feedback. I'm hesitant to go down the coupon route because Honey dominates the space, so I'd rather focus on tech that works along with Honey, than compete directly with them.

I agree gathering a community would be awesome, do you have any suggestions on how to do this? I could create my own with a subreddit or something, or maybe find one?

            1. 2

Ahhh, I see. I never heard of Honey.

From my POV, you don't have to necessarily compete with them. Large business usually leaves the low-hanging fruits on the trees. You can gather these low-hanging fruits. Find the niche within the niche. If not, dig deeper.

You already building a community here in IH. From what I gathered from people's feedback, it's great. You can start content marketing on your blog, but that will take a long time to see results.

Reddit is great. You can try some of these submissions:

              /r/SideProject - http://reddit.com/r/sideproject

              /r/SmallBusiness - https://www.reddit.com/r/smallbusiness/

              /r/Startups - http://reddit.com/r/startups

              Show HN - https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html

Betalist and Betabound. You can submit to startup directories.

You have to be careful about creating your own subreddit without looking to promotional or advertising with your product. It will get taken down quite quickly.
