Anyone know of successful applications built on top of existing payments platforms?
Sorry the question is a bit unclear - I'm wondering about existing examples of software businesses that have successfully monetized popular payments platforms. Another way to phrase this is whether there are businesses that run as adjacent services to payment platforms.
The motivation for this question is that I've been doing product interviews in a niche part of the B2B recruiting market and I keep hearing some version of "our payments processes are a mess". I'm thinking about different approaches to trying to build a business that addresses this problem.
Obviously the payment gateways are already built (Stripe, Paypal, etc) but they're not being used in this niche. My first though is around building/integrating functionality that supports different parts of the B2B transaction (contracts, CRM, payment) and am wondering whether there are example of existing businesses that have successfully done this.

Take a look at BuyMeACoffee.com which integrates/uses Stripe and PayPal for helping creators get paid support. The team got into YC too but I think with a different product
Within the livestreaming space monetization and engagement platforms like Streamlabs.com (acq. Logitech) was purely built on top of Paypal and Stripe.

Here is my suggestion.
Please don't build a application / software which depends on a particular payment gateway.
If the payment gateway companies see your application as a good general use case then even they would build one as their part of the product family.
Always pick a use case where the it is payment gateway agnostic. That way, you would safe guard your business and don't go too nich.

I'm curious whether any of them have their revenues certified on Indie Hackers or if there is information out there around which ones are most successful.
Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but pancakeapp.com (invoicing and project management app) wraps around the stripe API and allows for billing of clients. Including recurring payments and the likes. It's a pretty awesome app that was built and run by one guy for quite a few years.
