I am considering creating a Slack for community building and networking purposes. Has anyone gone down this route? If so, has it been successful? How did you market your channel?
There are examples of other communities I've found by googling "Slack community for X" where x = makers, builders, growth hackers etc. Maybe check those out if you haven't already, to learn what you like or don't about those setups.
I've created a free, in-person community and have found that curation of members and size of organization are key factors in creating a good experience. Here's an article, gives more insight and I've found helpful even if you're not charging or membership: https://hbr.org/2019/09/how-to-create-an-online-community-that-people-will-pay-for
Thanks for sharing! Ill give it a read
Very nice. My community will be free; the main goal is to connect with others in the industry in a friction-less relaxed environment. My goal is to develop a group chat with your friends kinda feel but on professional topics.
I created one for uidesigndaily
https://uidesigndaily.com/slack-invite
It pops up on the website every now and then.
@mattts has, and to pretty good effect I think
Cheers, Rob. Yeah, @apsine I've got a Slack community for my site Frontend Mentor. It's got over 7,500 people in now and is a great way to stay closer to your community. There's a sign-up component on the main site and there are links promoting it dotted around the site and in the README files for our code challenges.
Happy to chat more if you've got any specific questions.
My friend Scalipsum has done a Discord community for Developers, not the same, but close.
|He has done very well, over 500 people, and quite active.
Not 100% sure about how he achieved but seems very interesting to do a community build-out.
Thanks for sharing, would love to hear from your buddy.
I agree, I think it is an awesome opportunity for friction-less engagement. Less public and more relaxed. Somewhere you can really build close-knit community.
Just join the discord and ask him ;) sure he will give you some tips.
Hey, join CMX hub on Facebook. This link will take you directly to a conversation on building community around slack with tons of useful information. https://m.facebook.com/groups/671772672846305?view=permalink&id=2975411499149066&comment_id=2977253195631563¬if_t=group_comment_follow¬if_id=1587585884333794&ref=m_notif
