API for planting Trees

Climate change is upon us and we are trying to make it easier for companies to do their part in this fight. Trees are the most cost-efficient way to remove CO2 from the air.

I love this idea in principle, but I wonder how well it will work in practice. Paying to plant trees/sequester carbon is a good thing, but very open to fraud and abuse.
To be clear, I'm not saying that you are doing anything wrong, but your API as it stands does nothing to provide evidence of a tree actually being planted anywhere. I wonder if you need to develop a stronger chain of evidence, e.g. returning certificate IDs from the API call that can then be cross referenced with Eden Projects to confirm that the tree you've paid for will be (and later, has been) planted?
Hey @Steve_N, Thanks for commenting back. Your feedback is spot on. This is one of the feedback we received during our private beta as well. Customers want guarantees or evidence that the tree is planted whether its certificates, images.
We spoke to our planting partners and we will be providing a certificate back to our users who plant through our API and will later be cross referencing it with an Eden Projects certificate to close the loop. Transparency is clearly very important.
Out of curiosity, could a user of the API get carbon credits for using it?

No, at the moment, the projects we support through the API don't give carbon credits.
BUT! yes, the future goal is to allow you to purchase verified carbon removal credits from other projects as well including biochar, direct air capture, etc through the API so that companies can offset their emissions.
