Apple’s WWDC missed opportunity?

The stakes for Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) next week are bigger than ever.

Apple’s reputation amongst its developer community is probably the lowest it has ever been since the dark times of the 1990’s – when the company almost went out of business.

Developers are sick of the treatment and attitude from the company and the policies that are present on both the App Store and Apple’s platforms.

WWDC is an opportunity for Apple to reset the developer relationship, make significant changes and, as Apple blogger John Siracusa has noted, begin a “new deal for developers”.

Unfortunately, it sounds like what will be announced instead is an unneeded visual refresh of the operating systems, and a downplaying of any AI ambitions after last year's disastrous set of AI announcements.
