The visionOS SDK just got released — any first-movers here going to jump on it and build something cool?
Let's hear about it — what are you going to build?
Was just going to ask where you'd even begin, but found this article. Worth a read if anyone else is thinking about building something.
Sounds like you'll need to know the basics of Xcode, SwiftUI, RealityKit, ARKit and TestFlight. And you might need some 3D modeling experience too. Pretty doable unless you're trying to build something crazy.
For anyone who already has an iOS app, some of it will be compatible, but probably not all of it. Tweaks will be required.
Hope that helps!
This is super helpful, Sam!!
It's smarter to be a late adopter here:
Early developers to the App Store were making millions from simple $0.99 apps, e.g. press a button and it farts.
Exactly
Totally disagree. Early adopters may have more trouble doing what they want but enjoy more opportunities for recognition as the market is not crowded.
I mostly agree. But at the same time, it's so much fun to play around with new tech!
I've got dreams to develop for it, I just don't have the talent.
i was watching a michael j fox interview today and thought, wow, an apple vision-like device with the appropriate vision stabilization software would be an interesting solution for parkinsons disease sufferers. i can't imagine what it's like, but what if it applied image stabilization so the user perceives a (delayed) stabilized view of their environment (instead of their head bobbing around all the time)?
and if they're walking, some ML will overlay "red zones" so that the user's involuntary body movements are taken into account of where they can/cannot safely go, as a kind of obstacle-avoidance system. basically, those mechanized/gimbal spoons where you can shake your hand as much, but the spoon stays still. a GIMBAL FOR YOUR EYES!!
i mean there's gotta be a patent in there somewhere for this application. but not exactly an indie project. who's gonna prototype this this weekend? :D
AR headset aren't new but will Apple be able to hit the market hard with this vision pro headset?
A new world of possibilities is about to unfold!
I am wondering which use case should be worth working on :
DJing app : Navigate music library, suggestions based on AI for next-to-play track (based on crowd mood analyzed with the front camera)
Criminology : Crime scene analysis, real-time analysis of possible suspects/criminal profiles based on evidences
Air traffic control : Route analysis for planes, real-time monitoring + route suggestion for air controllers
Automotive/Mechanical Repair and Maintenance : What and how to fix a broken part ? Give the ability to mechanics to work faster/better or to empower DIY enthusiasts !
Healthcare : Surgeon assist during operations / Personal health monitoring
What do you think ? Would you pay for one of these? Do you think there will be a market for one of those app?
Despite all of this, I also raise some doubts regarding the device itself. Right now, the META Quest (Facebook headset) sits in the back of my appliance store...
The tooling here seems waayyyy too complex for me.
To me...It is currently at the "C++ level", I'm gonna wait till there is a "React Native" level of complexity.
Looks like you won't have to wait for long: https://twitter.com/donadeldev/status/1671643367246032897?t=l_IqYKcjb-AuyV7QcAA2yQ&s=19
this is awesome...
This is really cool. However, VR technology is yet to pick up the pace.
It's fascinating to see these technological advancements and the promising future they bring. However, I'm curious to know if these innovations are being implemented in underdeveloped countries as well.
Ohh, for sure! I would love to test some of my 3D models in an AR environment with these glasses!
The SDK is built around Unity correct?
Does our experiment with glass windows, backgrounds and an ornament in a browser count?
If so, that we can call ourselves first movers. 🙂
I need VR to prove to me it is not a fad before I begin building for it. I've owned 2 generations of headsets myself. My most recent quest, I quite literally put on for 1 hour after purchasing and it's sat on my dresser for 2 years since. I just can't see VR/AR getting popular until the devices are much.. much smaller. Even regular sized sunglasses are a hinderance.
Looks really cool
Xcode is one of the least reliable pieces of software I've seen, but I'm certainly going to give visionOS a shot.
What are some use cases?
I need to see the adoption rate before jumping on it.
If there are any interesting use cases please let me know!
I'm considering teaming up with some developer and rebuilding my app MindEscape (originally released on SideQuest). It's a visual meditation that lets you escape your daily sorrow and worries to beautiful places in nature. 😁
But since I'm not a developer myself, for now, I'm just watching the visionOS sessions from WWDC and studying the guidelines.
This is definitely is going to be the most profitable niche for the next 5–7 years! Those companies that will be the first to create this type of video content are going to earn billions! Just imagine, how much would you pay for the possibility to have a VR- walk with an avatar of your favorite actor talking to their AI model, receiving the answers the real themselves would give! Incredible
Agree, a 3D virtual idol is a great idea, I'll pay for it.
I'm leaning towards something in the fitness industry. Although, learning IOS app development shouldn't be that hard.
i have made a brainstorming app years ago, which I want to bring to vision os it becomes possible to brainstorm in the room!
I don't think I'll jump in quite yet given other projects, but I'd want a zen app I can use on an airplane to zone out everything with a 3D flight watcher.
i think i need to buy a vr device for testing. then build a game or something
Oh cool, definitely going to play around with it and see if I get inspired to build something!
Apple's vision OS SDK or any specific companies or individuals who might be early adopters. To find out the latest updates and who might be the first-mover for Apple's vision OS SDK, I recommend referring to official Apple announcements, news sources, or technology forums for the most up-to-date information.
