Are auction websites dead?
Hello, I am currently building an auction website for a small community around me.
However, I am still wondering: why are there no auction platforms on the market but instead basic listings (Craiglist, Gumtree, Le BonCoin, Facebook Marketplace...) ?
Do you think auctions/biding are too complicated for most people? Do you think they are afraid of such mechanisms?
Basically, why don't we see any (almost) any new generation of biding platform since eBay (2000) but instead basic listings?
I would love to get your insight about this! And if anyone is interested in this project, let me know as well.
For me personally, it's the having to wait to see if I get a product that kills me. Even if/when I use eBay, I usually just go for Buy It Now options, at which point I might as well just use Amazon. I think it might have some appeal for very very long tail items though (where someone wants to sell a one off, and it isn't worth listing it on Amazon).
