Are you interested in the concept of "book clubs" to discuss ideas?
Are you interested in "book clubs" or similar groups - where you discuss what you learned & found interesting about a specific book, movie, article etc? (I'm told people used to meet up IRL before the pandemic 😄)
I'm wondering about the concept of discussing ideas this way, not about challenges with book clubs (like finding a book everyone wants to read, then sticking with it etc).
Hi Peter, I'm very interested in reading, but not interested in the regimentation of book clubs, where you have to read a specific book. What I am interested in what friends and acquaintances are reading, if they have interesting tastes. So something like Goodreads should appeal to me but I find it excruciating.
From my observations of book clubs, they are partly just excuses for people to meet up. Often people don't read the book. My wife belongs to book clubs from time to time. It is a big market but I don't know if they have any needs.
I have written a hobby app that so far just allows you to keep lists of books read and books to read. It may evolve evolve into a better version of Goodreads. We shall see. Crickets so far.

You're interested in the discovery part of book clubs, not so much the "discussing ideas" / "what others thought of the same book"?
My idea is something like mostrecommendedbooks.com but for friends or non famous people, so you could follow someone with interesting reading tastes. But right now I just use it to keep track of a wish list and things I have read.
Yes, I like the discovery aspect. I would like to hear 5 or 10 interesting people stand up and talk for say 2 minutes about a good book they have read recently. Then maybe everyone mills around afterwards I could chat with some of the people about ideas related to their book. I will probably organize something like that locally.
MostRecommendedBooks is quite good. I will bookmark it. I find FiveBooks.com is good. It is organized by subject.

Do you want to improve finding books for a specific topic (like someone wants to find great marketing books), or improve discovery of great books regardless of subject? What do you want people to mention in their "2 minute book pitch" to get you interested?
I want to improve finding books in any topic. Just say you have read all the well known marketing books, but you want something else good. Ideally someone on my site reads lots and lots of marketing books. They might have some hidden gems....
Also, I am interested in what my friends around the world are reading/ have read. I do email them, but ideally they would enter all their books into my app. Then when I am curious I can just look them up...
I would like to hear the book pitches regardless of subject. I'm interested in people's passions and what they think is great. Thinking about it, I would like to hear about books people think are really good, not something mediocre they might have come across in the last month.
