Are you using paid ads to promote your new product? And pros & cons?

If we don't have a customer base, should we use paid ads to scale our new product?

If yes, what is the pros & cons? And how we optimize it?

If no, then what should we do to acquire user? Where to do that?

Well, it really depends, if you don't have an audience that is made of your target market, then probably it would be good to try. What is your product?

Now, the questions you should ask yourself are,

    1. Where is your target audience present?

    2. Are there any competitors advertising in those channels? (If there are, then it might be a good sign)

    3. Ask indirect competitors, if you see an ad of a company that is similar to yours, but that doesn't exactly compete with yours (so that they don't feel threatened) . Ask them how much they are spending and then spy on their ads with the Ads library (this if they are on fb).

    4. If your target audience is broad, then you can try creating content on TikTok that answers to specific questions that your product helps answer. Also repurpose these on Youtube Shorts and IG reels. (Don't record the video inside tiktok so that you don't have to spend time to take out the watermark when crossposting)

I'm currently working on a marketing automation tool, called Flowio, available at: https://apps.shopify.com/flowio

For question 3, may I ask how we could spy the ads if I want to run Google Ads?

For 1,2,4, yes!! I did define it and planned these channels in our marketing plan too. Do you have any tips while working with Tiktok videos?

Just saw this post about TikTok, https://www.indiehackers.com/post/how-this-chrome-extension-acquired-150k-users-with-tiktok-2bec088c92

You might find some useful insight in it. :)

To be honest I haven't made anything for TikTok in a long time, but I would say, make it as UGC as possible. If you are educating, then it doesn't matter if it is a bit more edited, but if you are trying to make sort of like a marketing video, try making it look as User Generated Content.

What works probably will also depend on the niche or type of product, so, testing both types is a good idea for marketing videos.

As for google Ads I am not sure if they have something similar, but, what you could do is probably find the keywords that are most likely to be similar to what your product does, and then see what their copy/offer is. I haven't really run any google ads for any of my products, but that's what I would probably do if I were to.

I got the first $1.5k of MRR to Growform purely through paid ads (Google Ads + a little bit of Facebook retargeting).

Pros: Fast, validates whether your landing page, product and pricing perform.
Cons: Expensive, not particularly scaleable (unless you're a FB magician), may be low traffic depending on your niche.

I'd highly recommend trying it (although don't rely on it purely), as it's the most targeted traffic you can buy. That said, there are lots of indie hackers (if not most) who haven't touched paid advertising and have built their audiences through twitter (I suck at this).

Then you can scale out to other channels (newsletters, podcasts, SEO, partnerships, etc).

100% spot on that using paid ads for early validation can be great. Google Ads are great, but we didn't find much success with FB or re-targetting.

yeah, definitely will test it out! Will go with Google Ads first.

Btw, I don't have much experience with Google Ads, do you have any advices for me to get started with it?
